Hi everyone

I’m struggling to find an appropriate link for a command manual for my 2002 R230.... as I have uncontrollable urge to be able to reset my clock! and also hopefully start to understand what my car can actually do. Sadly the original manual was not included with the car. Anyone got a link to either download or buy a copy?

thanks in advance

Rich

If you have Command it's set automatically from the GPS.
Unfortunately the GPS system operates on something called an epoch and when the epoch rolls over the GPS gets the date and time wrong.
Nothing you can do to fix it, however if it's an hour out try selecting another time zone to put the displayed time correct (date will still be miles out).

Is there not just a manual out there somewhere?

Has the time not auto corrected itself? Mine did. You have to just turn the radio on.

Ok, try this if all else fails. Disconnect your batteries, rear first and then the under bonnet one. Then reconnect on the stroke of midday or is it midnight ? Then the dash clock will read the correct time.

I tried first by disabling the auto summer/winter correction ... and got the right time etc... but sadly my car thinks it’s 26/03/2001! I’m open to ideas.... do you think a star man could fix this (not David Bowie)?

See my post above.
If you search the forum there's a very long and detailed thread about it.

Ex raf. Jtids? Epochs? Tod? Gotcha. So a new head unit if I’m a completist yes? I just hate **** not being just so, part of the torture of mercedes ownership I guess.... or maybe the appeal

A new command head unit will do nothing.
This is a programming issue within the software in the head unit.
There in no corrected software available and it's very unlikely that MB will do anything for a 17 year old vehicle if it's not safety related.

With the GPS data stream time is represented as a week number (starting Saturday night at midnight), and seconds in week. Thus the seconds count can reach 604,800 then roll to zero. Because the number is 10bit data, when the weeks hit 1023 (2 to the power 10 - 1) they then roll back to zero (this happened in 1999 for the first time and happens every 19.7 years). How the rollover is handled is down to programming in the receiving device itself.

The only way around this is to ditch Command and fit a 3rd party head unit (which if you have Bose creates a whole stack of issues) and tell the car it doesn't have Command so as to enable a time setting function in the dash menus.

I personally just live with it.

I hear you and totally agree.

could I ask you another question if I may? I had a dialogue with the man at command online... and I’m after an aux cable so I can listen to iPhone music. He said my car wouldn’t accept an aux.... yet there’s an aux setting in the system menu? Do you have any experience of this?

The AUX input is in the glovebox on the right hand side, if you have one. I have a BT adapter connected to mine and I stream from my phone.

This.
There are additional aux inputs on the TV tuner box (if fitted hence my question).

How does the adapter work? Just a Bluetooth receiver or something? Don’t suppose you could send adapter picture or details could you... sounds like a much better solution than a wire

R230 SL500 - oh yeah!
The time on my SL500 is out by about 3 mins. Can't adjust it so I just live with it.

Re the Aux connection - if you don't have one in the glovebox but you have a TV tuner, then you can get a bluetooth module connected to the TV tuner Aux. My TV tuner has 2 Aux connections so I had a bluetooth module attached to one and a 3.5mm cable attached to the other.

Setting the time, E class, 2005.
I get options of 15 or 45 minutes so just picked a good time to set the clock. Not spot on but near enough.
