Dont overkill with concrete being expensive as it is nowadays 00slk unless builders have it on price, fill is cheaper, 6 to 8" concrete is plenty for a baseless lift with a bit of mesh and if its one of the stronger lifts with the base, 6" on its own would do 30-35 newton concrete

Thanks for that Kev :)
I did go overkill when we concreted the pad for the outside 2 post lift, I think it was nearly a foot deep  but it was a 70's lift and has 3 and 4 ft feet.

At probably £80 a metre you could soon save enough to part purchase the lift :D. you only need 6" where feet of lift are with some steel mesh tying it to rest of floor. Some people do pads and then 4" for rest of floor

A ciggy packet calculation indicates that it will be costing you 4.00 kWh/h to maintain a temperature rise of 10°C above outside temperature in your garage with a solid brick wall construction and 0.08 kWh/h with an insulated cavity wall. Gas heating would be more economical at 4p/Unit opposed to Electricity at 15p/Unit.

Typical U values
Solid brick wall: 2 W/(m²K)
Cavity wall with no insulation: 1.5 W/(m²K).
Insulated wall: 0.18 W/(m²K).

I'd go for a cavity wall with appropriate insulation.

Never heard of infrasun but it sounds expensive to run? :) It's all information for the OP no matter what anyone's personal opinions are, I've lost count of the times in my lifetime where upon realisation of something I've said to myself "Hells Flames, I wish I'd known that earlier! :geek:

They turn up at all significant points in the build and you want them too,

most have realised that the wagons are circling on poor builds and responsibility.

About time too.

We used to have those in the workshops years ago, our ones ran on diesel but certainly warmed the huge drafty workshop up :D
We never worried about the expense as the boss paid for the useage ;)

Don't worry about me Kev, my brain was fried when I was born o_O :D
I'm looking at fitting this into the garage once it has been removed from the lounge.

When the garage has been built, the lounge is next on the 'to do list' to bring the 60's Bungalow into the more modern stage with a slim gas fire edition :) Though we seldom use this fire, 3 times in 4 years twice when the central heating broke down.
Our very first garage build was 45ft by 24ft and had a 10ft stud, it was heated by a coal/wood burning potbelly fire which heated the tin shed quite sufficiently. The second of our garage extensions was heated with 2 large radiators, though a lot smaller 23ft by 17ft and only 8ft stud, lovely to work on the cars in the middle of a very cool winter night
The 3rd build extension was from a 2 car to 3 car garage without heating brrrrrr.
This build 7.5 by 7.3 meters will be cold to start off with so extra jerseys and thermals to be worn

For a major build I get it,a garage, not really unless yr intent is build accommodation on top ?but then most things I do are a bit over engineered as I have no intention of doing it twice.

Been there 9 yr now.so guess its staying put
About time too.

Here in NI every foundation that goes through planning gets inspected, building control visited my property 3 times during build and then they have to do a final certificate to pass the house. Certificate is important if you ever go to sell the house or apparently your house is not legally insured without it.

Only problem they are manual and you have to turn them on and off to adjust heat level, best option is a stack heater in the corner for a garage

Next stage to lay the plastic sheeting. Building inspector coming early next week and hoping to get the concrete poured mid week :)

Are you insulating the slab ?

for relatively little cost it will improve your lot especially if/as you are heating it.

This is a terrific thread - not only for us "observers" but it will be a super diary in the end (no doubt explaining where each of the pains came from)! But in 3 or 4 years when you look back you'll (hopefully) remember the chit-chat more than all those aches and pains! It will be super when it's finished - plenty of power to your elbows!

Just going with a plastic sheet before the concrete is poured Frontstep, did think about putting underfloor heating in there but with the 2 poster going in and maybe other items that will require drilling into the floor we decided against that. A minimum of 150mm concrete, it is double brick and I still have the option of drywall insulating once the build is finished.

Thanks Dave, most of the pains will be coming from the wallet, lol. One thing for sure, all of use will be 3 to 4 years older :D
It does look quite good on the plans, hoping the finished product will be the same. The builders are now talking about knocking down the concrete block building which was supposed to have been incorporated into the build for extra space, and making it wider. ................Like that will happen!!

Update. Another step closer with the delivery of the hardcore. ....

EmilysMum used to work for the council at the refuse collection bit .... where the bin men worked.

She had an email returned to her inbox as it contained unsuitable content  It took a few of them some time to realise that the word 'hardcore' was the problem! :D:D:D
The word was obviously being used as above!
