Hello
I have a 2014 Mercedes Benz ML350 4matic gasoline engine and today after changing the oil and oil filter and drove for like 25 minutes afterwards the CEL came on and it was saying P0011 ( A camshaft position timing over-advanced or system performance bank 1) and P0014 ( B camshaft position timing over-advanced or system performance bank 1)
Both codes
were permanent. The car is not as fast as it was before, the acceleration is slower.
I have to mention thou that the filter that I used did not have the black plastic tower and the guy at a local store said that it shouldn’t be a problem.
After some quick research i saw that the black plastic tower serves as a sealer or something so I went to another store and I bought another filter with the plastic tower and the only difference is that both codes now are pending
Any thoughts
Thank you

Did you check the engine oil level afterwards.

Pending codes turn into permanent codes when the same event happens in the next driving cycle.

yes I added about 0.5 quarts and changed the filter with the right one
As soon as I did that the codes from permanent became pending
The car still does not accelerate as fast as before

Change the filter to the MB correct one it may be collapsing without the central tower which I assume is the your reference to the central plastic cage that sits in the filter. The codes will need clearing.

There are some videos on this on Utube the sealed centre hole at the bottom of the cage is a pressure oil overflow only the filter you used without the tower has allowed oil pressure in the engine to drop hopefully you haven’t done any harm

Hopefully with codes cleared, the right filter and a few miles covered the oil pressure will be back to normal

I hope so.
What about the acceleration? the car is not as fast as before... is it slower because the codes are still pending?
If the codes gets cleared should this issue be resolved as well??

It sounds as though the car is in limp mode ie, won’t rev past 3000rpm, keep using the car and hopefully oil level checked the correct oil pressure will allow the codes to be cleared. Do you have reader to clear the codes?

Actually it can go all way to 5-6000 rpm but just takes a little longer if you know what I mean. I’ll keep driving it today and hopefully the codes gets cleared out

He meant a standing 3000 rpm i think. Not cruising . The codes won't simply disappear. Tbh i can't see any connection between an oil change and a cam shaft timing sensor unless you disturbed the wiring for it.

Hello, I probably did, because when I changed the filter was a mess of oil around the engine so I washed it afterwards, not a pressure washer thou just with some degreaser and water

They aren't magnets and there's only 1 . They are hall sensors . Dry out any water with a hair dryer and have the codes cleared .

You won't know till you do. A new cam sensor is about 25 £ . Normally the log codes from poor starting or miss fire .
