6.2 litre or 5 litre turbo?

I've just come back to Mercedes after a misguided venture with Porsche (read Audi!).
I now have a 5 litre AMG Bi Turbo but even though on paper has more power than my previous older (non-turbo) 6.2 litre it doesn't thump you in the back like the 6.2 did when you kick-down.
Do they do non-turbo versions anymore? I don't like the lag.

Welcome back, in short no, the best thing you can do is have the current bi-turbo remapped, it will then feel much more punchy

AMG don't make a 5.0 Bi Turbo. It's either a 5.5 Litre (M157) from 2010 onwards, or the later, from c2016, 4.0 (M177)

They did make an M278 4.7 litre twin turbo which was badged as a 5.0 but it's not an AMG design, nor has it the performance to match one. Oh, and there shouldn't be any turbo lag in either of the AMG engines mentioned above.

If u can get it just go cubic capacity. Two turbos are 2 more things to go wrong...mind you I wonder if something wrong wid yr bi turbo I had sl600 bi turbo and that certainly did push you down into the leather

The 2007 R63 AMG in your profile is a 6.2l V8 NA. Is this the car you are talking about?

Bi-Turbos don't have lag because the second turbo gobbles up the lag

Yes that's my previous. New one is ML63 Biturbo

Yes it's the M157. Maybe it's not turbo lag then as such. It definately goes like a rocket eventually but just doesn't feel like the 6.2.

I too old for tearin around. But my bi turbo wasn't getting passed by much unless I wanted it to.

Yes it's the M157. Maybe it's not turbo lag then as such. It definitely goes like a rocket eventually but just doesn't feel like the 6.2.

My M157 engined E63 goes like a scalded cat from a standstill.
Something not right if you don't get a shove in the back from the off.

The 6.2 doesn't come alive until 4.5 -5k RPM. Certainly not as instant as the 5.5 in my experience.

The M157 I did find benefited from a map - no lag (as said with bi- turbo) but it could have the occasional flat on the power curve - but by Christ it was potent when driven - yours doesn’t sound right

Problem is lag as defined by seat of the pants feel is very subjective.
My CLS63 AMG (mapped) doesn't suffer engine lag - but does suffer slowish gear engagement/slip.
Compare it to my Maserati with F1 gears and it 'feels' laggy.
Even though it is actually way faster overall.
I'm actually a fan of big engined NA engines.
Though having watched Ken Block's Hoonicorn on YouTube I can see that turbos are useful...

Myself I prefer to keep my motors tip top but standard .v12 bi turbo in std form never stressed delivering 500 plus hp .

That was a V12 though mate

I have a serious hankering for that 6.2 NA lump.

Go for it.if u have garaging and runabout.caution is, pretty sure taxes on big thirsty motors goin to really hurt in not to distant future
