Hi everyone.

Not getting any luck with my car. My EML is on and got it diagnosed as faulty downstream Nox sensor. Picture attached

Indi Garage in Manchester is charging £660 to replace?

I’ve tried getting it fixed FOC by Mercedes and they said the nox sensor isn’t the ones being replace by merc and also no goodwill as it’s not been serviced by Mercedes themselves in 4 years. Put in a complaint etc and some guy from Holland rang saying nope they won’t replace

I rang merc parts and the part is around £500 inclusive of VAT. So is £660 too much as it’s only a sensor change?

I’ve attached the fault code that was given by the indi in Droylsden.

Again much appreciated for any help

Is their labour to get the car on the ramp, disconnect the sensor from the exhausts system, reconnect new sensor, erase adaptions, test drive the car, not worth anything?

Smart + others :)
A little high but it will most likely need a software update too. You have to drop a few under trays as well.

Hi,

In no way I’m saying what they doing is nothing. All I’m asking for is the price ok? I have already paid them for the diagnostic so it was them that said it needed replacing.

I don’t claim to be an expert or mechanic which is why I’m asking in this forum.

If the part cost 500 then the labour is around 160. They charge 50 per hour so that’s like 3 hours labour for the work to change the sensor

I’ve looked online about doing it and it didn’t seem like anything I read or saw that it was a 3 hour job. I thought asking a forum that specialises in Mercs would be helpful but I’m getting a sarcastic comment

The Nox sensor update has already been done (by Mercedes) and the same garage tried reinitialising the current Nox sensor via the star program to see if it resolves the problem without the replacement. But eml came back on within a few days.

Apologies,Yes, in that case 3 hours labour is excessive Imo 1.3 ish should cover it.

Thanks. Il look around then Instead

Anyone know any decent Indi’s around the Manchester area?

Ps does the attached screenshot definitely mean it’s the downstream Nox that’s faulty otherwise I might end up paying to get the wrong one replaced as I don’t want to pay again for another diagnostic

Just had a look and there is so many on eBay. Do I just look for downstream for the w205 model or will I need an exact part number? Also I can’t see anywhere that it shows q5?

Do you still have the link where you bought yours from?

factor in the VAT for the garage.

Get your dealer to supply the part, you will be pretty sure it will be the right and most recent part bearing in mind they wont usually accept returns on special order items.

one of the software updates is to update your vehicles records to get parts systems to show / supply the mk3 working NOx sensor

otherwise the reg number or chassis number will report you should fit the equally useless (to the original) mk2 sensor

ok, my sensor part number is a000 905 34 03, its a continental part. at the bottom of your old sensor it will say ZGS 002 Q02. the current up to date sensor is the same part number expcept for for the last part, it should read ZGS ---Q05 For the updated version. I bought mine from a mercedes parts dealer on ebay and he post from canada and sends as a gift so no duty.
