2009 CLC 250
Good afternoon, I know this is a long shot but is there anyway you can help me, I’m trying to replace the rear air vents in my 2009 CLC 250, and after removing the ashtray I can’t figure out how to remove anything else, ie the trim holding the vents in!! Please help
Many thanks in advance.

Won't the handbrake be in the way?
Do the rear vents have a plastic rectangular surround ?

No handbrake as it’s a foot one, but it’s the air vents that supply the rear seats, housed in the back of the arm rest!

This is the part of trim I’m trying to remove so I can change the air vent unit

Not from personal experience, I'm afraid - never had a CLC o_O

The front ones on 169/245 are removed with this fancy pieces of wire, £15 from MB:

These go in either side, then turn to release the locking lugs. Could be something similar?

I looked at pictures from the bit of trim I’m trying to get off, but for the life of me can’t work out how to remove it, I was praying someone else has a clc from photos it looks like with force it may just slide up as I can’t see any lugs or clips that need to be unengaged, but I reallly can’t get mine to budge ‍♂️♂️

I got the part off eBay, so I’ll post you some photos, but this part is held in behind a trim, it’s that trim that won’t budge 6C2E5C6B-B51B-4DF5-8B5A-FF3A0E1C0785.jpeg C12EC4C6-3561-445D-AC7A-97BBAB14747B.jpeg

I did see the first post but it’s a different assembly I just looked but can’t see the lugs mentioned in the second link, it all seems flush once the ashtray is removed! I’m ****** stuck as nothing else online

Looking at the pic you posted (would be helpful to see all four sides), you can try this: stick two flat thin plastic trim removers between the top of the vents units and the trim, until the lugs release (similar to removing a CDC from a glove box, if you ever done that) - then just pull out ...

The actual air vent part I posted will not slide out as it is in cased in a trim that surrounds the whole unit, it’s this trim that also holds the ashtray that I can’t budge, I’ve attached some photos of the trim that I can’t budge, that I found on eBay

Oh, I see - it looks like two metal expanding symmetrical clips on the top and hooks in the middle - the whole things should just slide up with a help of a trim remover - ideally two - each side at the very bottom - between the carpet and the console.

Yes it’s housed in the bottom part of the trim under the air vents.

Ok thank you, I’ll try it with two small screwdrivers as I don’t have a trim remover, or do you suggest I go and buy a trim remover??

I'd get some trim tools, they're not particularly expensive and very handy to have in the tool kit.

Screwdrivers make a mess of plastic trim way too easily
