Hi guys

Renewal time and I am wondering how people do their multi car policies? It seems there isn't any way to input multiple cars to get a single price online?

Does everybody just input single cars into the comparison sites, one at a time?

Are the so called "multi car discounts" applied by insurers any use in your experience?

Thanks

Admiral renewal coming in at £311 for the SL and £425 for the E class. Which doesn't seem outrageous? Prices starting to creep down a little. Thankfully.

The discounts can be a bit hit and miss. The smallprint on the TV ads for multi-car often have a disclaimer similar to 'Multi-car may not be as cost-effective as insuring each vehicle separately'. That was certainly the case for a customer of ours whose 7 vehicles we covered individually but gave our own discount on. He saved a fair amount by coming off multi-car.

If we can help, please give us a call.

Car insurance has become ,like much else,a can you be bothered issue, if u can be bothered one can generally save a fair bit.
Yrs ago I used general accident.for prob a decade.now ,in my view the renewal from yr existing insurer will near always be a good deal more than you will be able to get looking elsewhere. So instead of loyalty being a benefit its actually likely to cost you.brand loyalty is now extinct.

I have been with Churchill for about 4 years with their multi car policy, they got me on to it as it was cheaper. Each year they add their 10% I give them cheaper quotes from Confused & they match them.
This year they want £355 for the E350CDI & £283 for the SLC, a big jump. Moneysupermarket can do the E class for £199, & Confused can do the SLC for £216.I think I shall be moving.

That's very interesting.. I didn't know the comparison sites provided differing results. I was beginning to lose faith.

I need to do a little more looking.

I normally use Confused, but I read a report that Moneysupermarket was the best site.
The only difference in the questions was Moneysupermarket asked two additional questions.
1 Do you have advanced driving qualifications? Answer yes.
2 Where is the car parked during the day, here there is an option to put locked garage at home.

Do check on the quotes how much car kept in garage or on drive actually saves you. Every quote time I check this and it's never been more than low single figure £pounds, so I just say I park it on the street. Which I do for a few hours once in a blue moon. But it is these times I expect someone to drive into my parked car and then drive off. I (possibly incorrectly) think that the extra £2 or whatever is worth the peace of mind that it *might* be more straightforward if there was a claim, as I wouldn't have to *defend* why my car wasn't on the drive (where it is nearly all the time I'm not driving it).

I saw a news feed today stating that from 1st Jan 2022 car insurance firms will be banned from price walking on car and home insurance and will be no longer be allowed to increase policy prices on existing customers and have special deals for new one's , so good news if you have been with a company for years like i have and have to haggle each year to get a good deal better than a comparison site, which people can still do to get a better quote from next year? About time too i say

Well Mystic Blobcat lets see if your prediction comes true eh? But the insurance companies just cannot hike up prices without good reason and could be in breach of new regulations? Say if my policy now is £200 this year Hastings cannot and will be not allowed to hike it up to say 250 or more if i made no claims this year?

That’s not what the new rules mean. They will be able to increase premiums but if they do it has to be done on new business AND renewals so there’s parity.
