Managed to take a photo of each this afternoon, they are a bit dirty but give a good idea of what can be achieved over a couple of days and three of the four were quite bad - nothing looks worse than white powdered corrosion. I’ll be quite interestEd to see how they hold up.
Excellent job looks great!

Powder coat doesn't last forever, even w/o kissing kerbs.

Yep but it has to beat that corrosion under the clear lacquer? What are the alternatives?

Personally I'd go powder coat,
that's mainly because of the place I've used in Brum (City Powder Coat) that do wheels starting at £40 each. I don't know how the Brum clean air penalties might change things.
I have been taking the wheels down there when it's time for new tyres. I provide new tyres and the set are returned ready to fit. Tyre fitting is approx £10 extra.

But I've seen the corrosion bubbling beneath after perhaps 4 years or less.

But on yours some wire wool, or as said some fine emery and good laquer might suffice for a while.

Just see it as maintenance for having nice wheels.

You could always get steel ones and plastic covers...............................................................

Even the home use stuff is pretty bad, I’ve been trying to find a cleaner as close to neutral as I can but seem to be failing miserably at the moment
Which ones you tried ? I did a comparison on another forum with the Meguiars, bilt hambler , autoglym and a couple others , since then I’ve also tried the Gtechnic wheel cleaner which is pretty good

Megs and autoglym so far which is now almost finished so I’ll give gtech a try next,

Bilt hamber auto wheels is probably the best but has a really strong smell unfortunately that lingers , Gtechniq W6 seems to be a good alternative

I’d like to throw Bilberry into the mix, you can make it what strength you require.
I clean wheels regularly, so only use 1/10 mix .

Not seen that one so I’ll take a look, always like the idea of a self mix solution

It’s one I’ve yet to try as well so be good to hear some feedback on that

38% Hypochlorite is very common amongst the unlicensed hand car wash fraternity… does a great job of removing brake dust, lacquer, paint and alloy….

Yea, I saw them using 33% Hydrochloric *NEAT* at a car wash the other day. I was so shocked. I knew they used some pretty strong stuff but damn..

MB have come back and offered to pay 50% for replacement of 3 of the wheels & they keep the old ones. Sounds like an admission of some sort. I’m not happy as they want me to contribute about £1300 to get 3 replaced.

1) What happens when number 4 fails
2) What happens when the same problem starts again in a couple of years
3) They take the old 3, send them back for repainting, and resell (even as used) and lose nothing.

Other than corrosion at the center, the wheels ae almost pristine. I think I’ll fight on and go directly to MBUK.

For £1300 you could have them refurbished diamond cut twice, that would Probably outlive your ownership of the car....
