Not entirely convinced it's much better though. The headlights on my 60 year old chevy give all the illumination you could ever need and then some. Simple bulb and reflector.
Ouch and does that say more about what you might demand.

Night Driving
Always drive at a speed you can see to be safe.

Might I tactfully suggest that a car with more powerful\better headlights might be able to see further and therefore drive quicker?

Down here we have a notorious area where at night deer are prone to jump out in front of an innocent motorist\rider and this can easily prove fatal. On this stretch of road there are reflectors that bounce the light from the headlight into the woods, thus, hopefully scaring the deer away. JB, I am sure you are familiar with this area but if not, it's up at Haldon. These accidents can be a deer do...

That's correct Peter. As I recall, if we couldn't see properly, we just slowed down a bit. Much safer all round.

Good news in this story.
Today I managed to clean the light, tried to connect it to harness to check functions, glue the front cover on and install to the car.
It was the first time ever I did job like this, but it looks good I think. During change and repainting of the fender, wing, bonnet I´ll do the same with other headlamp, of course I´ll polish both front covers too.

At least the car is rideable for now, repair is planned in 2-3 weeks

Way, way above my head:D. Surely the point is whether lights can illuminate the road well and are safe for other road users. Personally I think on some cars even dipped headlights are way too bright for on coming traffic. Anyway going off topic.
Nothing wrong with a bit of thread drift. The unit of “lumen” is a measure of (very broadly) brightness as perceived by human eyes, as distinctly different to lamp power. The higher the lumen measurement, the higher the perceived illumination.

Point being that car headlamps roughly quadrupled in brightness from the late 80s to the early noughties, and have since around 2014-5 been dialled down in brightness as we hit issues like lens glare, light scattering and blue-light effect.

There's only so quick you want to drive a 3800lb 60 year old convertible without seat belts though;).

Except if you're buying a Chinese LED flashlight then Lumens are very mysterious beasts indeed.
