Hi

I am new to this forum and I’ve had my Mercedes for nearly 3 years. Thank you for accepting me into the forum.

The issue I’m having at the moment is that I am feeling every single pothole and bump in the road and I feel like it is damaging the wheels and the tyres. I have been advised by my local garage that the tyre pressures are perfectly fine. The tyres are all continental 18’ 225/40 Z18 How can I resolve this? And is this normal. I have a Mercedes CLA 2018 to 220 D.

My tracking is also out a bit and pulls to the left. Very annoying on otherwise a great car.

The other issue I am having is that my wipers are juddering and very noisy. Garage says they are fine, but I reckon they are not. I have also been told they are not standard wipers and costs around £50 to replace.

Any advise and help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Juddering wipers is either something on the screen or worn wipers.

In terms of the ride what pressures are you running?

A 40 profile tyre will never be overly compliant but shouldn't be excessively bad.

I'd be tempted to lower them a touch to 220 all round.

Higher pressure will make the tyre less able to compress pushing more force from bumps into the suspension.

I see! I didn’t know that less pressure makes the bumps feel less. I feel it has got worse. And it I think it has knocked out my tracking

Whereabouts are you based? Maybe a respected MB independent garage could take a look?

North Manchester. My local garage is pretty good and they said they can get my wipers cheaper as apparently they are special ones.

Change your wipers, they are usualky good for 2 years max if you are lucky. Dont bother with cheap and get then from MB.

Go by the tyre pressure in the filler cap and make them a bit lower.

As much as possible avoid potholes - not easy given the state of the roads.

A warm welcome to the forum of course!

After I changed the wiper blades on my R Class several times over a relatively short period due to the driver's side juddering, I changed the arm .... problem solved.

You do know that MB don't actually make wiper blades ...;);)
I do love you jumping on my buy from MB dealer posts.

Of course I know that, but they do demand a certain spec.

lets leave it there eh or discuss over a few pints one day

Should I buy from Halfords? Or is that a big fat no?

No to Halfrauds - MB dealer is my recommendation.

Got it. My local garage told me they can get them. Cheaper than MB for sure. Near impossible to avoid potholes. Hit one yesterday that sounded like I smashed my wheel to pieces. Freaked me out. Appears no damage and still drives fine.

Depends what make it is though Halfords is expensive anyway, so probably not. I'd go to a good motorfactors or a local battery place.

MB blades or Bosch are all I fit.
Bosch are available on Amazon if you're looking for a better price.

So…update… had the wipers replaced with Bosch. Brilliant. Good as new.

Changes the tyre pressure to 40 or 270psi all round. Feels great now and handles so much better.

So, am now all good.

Thanks for all the advice
