Well today I finally managed to give mine its first clean of the new year.. With all the rain over the new year its surprising how much gunk builds up.

Well LK take a look at this long wire that's on the Money Pit. I have no idea where it goes, it looks as if part of the wire was cable tied to the engine dipstick tube, its got to ho somewhere and I for the life of me can't remember unplugging it

It's long enough to go down as far as the side of the sump. It's not filthy so can't see it plugging into anything where the road grime gets too.
Hoping this will help your boredom ;)

I summoned up enough energy to move the transport museum about, get my S211 in the garage and give the 5.5 glow plugs a good coat of looking at. 5 out and replaced in 5 minutes, the other broken one about 4 hours.

20220109_203308.jpg
This cheap kit helped no end but l needed additional tools, taps and drill bits plus turning a couple of parts on the lathe, partly due to the glow plug design and to save dismantling the fuel rail and wiring.

20220109_155935.jpg
I sectioned one of the old glow plugs to see how the central core was fitted as with the head sheared off there was a good 25mm sticking out and no amount of pulling was getting it free. Even this one was difficult to get out, I think the core is friction welded into the tip.
I had to use one of the sleeves in the kit to drill the 3mm core away down to the body then turn the outside of the sleeve to fit inside the glow plug body and continue.
It was a real ball ache, and if I had to do it again I would find a better solution!

20220109_203156.jpg
The end of the extraction tool was a tight fit in the cylinder head counterbore and the fuel rail was in the way preventing a straight pull. I turned up this spacer to sit in the cylinder head effectively extending the tool. It was cut off an old steering control arm from the scrap box, perfect diameter, just needed boring out.

The offending items.

No more glow plug light after start up and no codes after resetting with the new toy, an iCarsoft CR Max. I fully expected to find the light to still be on due to a faulty controller!

Could be some sort of aftermarket addition which links to a sensor in the boot to tell you what the water level is like in there! (Or is this the wrong car? ;) )

Cleaned it for the first time in a while, inside and out, looks mint again.

Actually got the valance on the rear bumper black again, been a total pain in the bum, AG Bumper care applied thick worked, also did the trim under the wipers as that has faded in the sun, both look great. Touched in a couple of marks on the wheels.

Considering I am thinking of changing it, I looked at it and thought "why????" It is such a good looking car

Had it for 7 years yesterday, done 60k in it. Never had a car this long!!!!

Well I prepared the bike for its MOT by hard-wiring the ABS warning light to off.
The less said about Honda's C-ABS, other than they discontinued it, the better.
It passed.

Two things today, finished the Money Pit, it runs
Secondly ran the vin number of the SLK and think I now know why it's only averaging 42.3 mpg, it says 'advanced engine performance'
Got a few extras, but nothing beneficial to the driver

I asked the previous owner of my S211 if the heated rear side windows worked when he had it as they did not touch the frost this morning. He said no but the radio did!

Test drove the Money Pit this morning and all well, biggest improvement is when you switch off the engine, no enormous shake, amazing what a replacement engine mount will do :D
I was also able to remove the radiator cap without it being blown out of my hand, that's a first, no wonder the radiator hoses kept blowing off. I guess cleaning out the ERG valve made a huge difference too.
While Money Pit was off the road I checked the trans fluid. It was 4" up the dip stick
After my big test run and at normal temperature I checked the level again and it was just above 25 degrees mark, should it not be at the 80 degrees level??
Hoping it is just too low on trans fluid. Would say me swapping the TC and transmission :)

Made a discovery!! Not the Land Rover type!
Washed the car today despite the water freezing in the bucket then suddenly had a brainwave!
It annoys me when cleaning and polishing that the keyless entry keeps opening and closing the locks while I'm busying away around the door handles.
Anyway, I gave the lock button on the key fob a double press and lo and behold problem solved! It remains locked until I use the fob again whatever I do to the handles!
Little things please little minds I suppose but I'm very happy I've solved the "problem" :geek:

I've copied this idea from another forum that I use (A Ford Transit Forum) of all things!

I quite look forward to getting the e-mail notifiers that someone has posted something... De-badged their van, polished it, new wheels maybe... even a new air freshener....

Just a bit of fun really....

So, come on...
What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?
Swore at it! It's sitting outside my house but I can't use it as the back wheels may fall off! Waiting for a new rear subframe to arrive at MB! No car - NOT HAPPY!

The side windows aren’t heated, one side is for the radio and the other is the antenna for the MB phone that would have been in the glove compartment

Didn’t do anything but the pallet of stuff for the wife’s CLK cab arrived today. Wood inlay wheel needs a little bit of restorative care, but everything else seems tickety boo.
Got all the wood dash trim, including the wood inlaid gear-lever and glove box complete with the Disigno logo on them. Also got the door trims and rear panels which shall be surrendering the wood trim, natch, and am now seriously considering looking for the orthopaedic electric seats, seeing as the door panels have come with the electric seat switches.
Any recommendations for someone who could sort the cracked wood on the steering wheel to make it look new again?

I've heard nothing but good things about Royal Steering wheels for refurbs.
