Morning,

Looking to see if anyone has had to replace the MAF on a W212 E350 (2012). Looks like MB sell a whole assembly for an extortionate amount of money, I wondered if anyone new of where to get just the sensors, how much and if anyone can give direction for me to fit myself that would be great.

Cheers All,

Not a chance.

Used units are about the cheapest or maybe a reconditioned unit on eBay.

There's this with a 5 year warranty , maybe not for a 350 !!!. The sensors are on eBay £58 each ,but will they last ?

Count your pins , good luck removing the old ones.

I’m sad to say I would be looking at original only for such a part and agree totally that it’s silly to have to buy the entire ducting into which it’s integrated. But this is part and parcel of owning modern crap designed by fvckwits.

I needed to add that over the years of personal experience, not all sensors are calibrated the same between manufacturers. I have seen good fakes cause ongoing issues and lower quality parts fail prematurely. As a result, when it comes to engine management sensors, it has to be original/genuine in my book, even more so if you intend to keep the car.

Looks like we could start a list of money making parts designed to fail at extreme cost to the customer ie DRLs integrated into headlights @ £1k, thermostats integrated into housings £300, MAFs integrated into inlet ducting £700, and the big daddy of them all tandem oil/vacuum pumps placed in the sump @ ££££££…..and the list goes on

9g Gearbox filters built into the sump, new sump required £190.

The engine air filters even have part of the housing integrated into them on my ML350 ..... at least they're marginally easily to remove/replace than those on the R320 I had.
The Air filter on my V6 Omega was right there at the front of the engine bay .... it took longer to get it out of the box that it did to actually fit it .... the thermostat though was a different story!

I looked into replacing the batwing on my R Class because it was damaged where one of the worm drive clips clamped .... that was until I saw the price of them. It just got glued.

I'd make sure the MAF really is faulty before replacing. I've seen lots of posts where people said they had a fault code that mentioned MAF, so they blindly replaced it and fault persisted. There was a new post like that only today.

If you've got two you've one to use as a reference when investigating. You'd be damn unlucky for both to fail at the same time.
I can understand for cheap items it's sometimes easier to replace than investigate, but not when it's silly money like that.

If the OP were to buy just the element from Bosch, how would he calibrate it..?

I meant a sensor by different brands will be somewhat different. In my painful BMWs era years ago I found that they were very sensitive (if you can feel it) to genuine sensors.

So here if Bosch is the original element and the OP got a genuine Bosch one it will be fine.

my mechanic did it.
What machine was he using to get the codes, codes are pretty useless unless they then know what needs to be looked at next, live values on sensors etc then diagnose the actual problem. Replacing parts due to it throwing a code is an expensive way of repairing a car I’m afraid

Try an electrical cleaner spray on both mafs . Either way it's used or new batwing assembly.
