Hi Guys, I have an 03 SL55, does anybody know if It is possible to set my folding door mirrors to fold automaticaly every time I lock the vehicle as I often forget to fold them in manually and feelI may pay the price for this one day!!
I have been through the user manual and looked for it in the settings menu but there is no mention of this feature, only parking mirror position, but I have seen this feature on another 05 SL R230.

On many MB models electric folding mirrors are extra. Do your mirrors fold at the touch of a button?

If you have folding mirrors there is normally an option somewhere to fold automatically when locking. No doubt television will be along with more info.

Yes Hawk20, they fold in at the touch of the button, a quick press and they fold in and another quick press and they re open again, I dont have to hold the button down!

Check the menus in your instrument cluster as they may be programmable through there in the 'settings' menu.

BrabusR230, I'm no techie but while we wait for someone more expert this may be of use.
1. You say you've checked settings and nothing there
2. You do have electric folding mirrors
3. On U.S.A forums I've seen threads saying that the option 'to automatically fold on locking the car' is in the software somewhere. Just not been activated. Apparently a dealer can get into it and activate this setting for you. That is what they said. Might be worth asking your local MB service manager.

Most cars with a one touch button can be done, but not all, the break point for this mod was sometime during 03.

best to plug it into STAR and try, its the only way that you will know, but the operator does need to know how to do it

This feature was only standard on the 06-06 new SL cars

The have quoted me £364 inclusive vat for an "A" Service, I was thinking it would be an easy thing to activate (if possible) with little or no charge, I am only taking my car there as I wanted to keep the service history with Mercedes Benz. my car is a 2003 R230, 1 owner but only has 25,000 mls with FMBSH I have been having sleepless nights whether to stay MB  or inde  and if I go inde will it affect the resale value of my car in the future!!

Hi there,

I am opening an independant Mercedes specialist in a months time, if you can wait for your service till then I will charge IRO £175 for an A service and IRO £250 for a B service. Basic services, dependant on mileage and age you may need extras. Detail of these can be found in the back of your service record.

Dealers are very loath to do coding modifications...

You are in North London, why not give comand.co.uk a ring? They have done coding mods (and much more!) to many members cars.

Highly recommended ;)

This was my point, but you have put it across better than me, and this subject has been up many times where the dealer cannot do it, as they have not been trained to

My 2004 E320 CDi has power fold mirrors. The vehicle came with two keys and during the pre-purchase test drive I noticed that if I locked the car with one key, the mirrors folded in automatically. However, if I locked the car with the other key, the mirrors did not fold.

I asked the seller why this was and he said that the mirror-fold function was key dependent, along with a few other settings.

I don't know how true this is because I haven't checked it out. Assuming the information is correct, there must be some key-related settings menu for this feature.

On a 2004 car you are OK, all DAS11 and 111 are key dependent on all driver functions, you have a his and hers keys programmed totally independent, you have the same on keyless go as well.
The OP's problem is that the 2003 cars were not sold with this function

Don't let them put you off. There is a great myth that indies are so much cheaper. I have just had the annual A service done on my E220cdi estate and it cost just over £200 inc vat. And for that price they collect and deliver or give you a loan car; and you get free breakdown service in UK and Europe; and a 30 year rust guarantee; and they valeted the car when they'd finished; and fitted free, new stronger gas-filled struts to the tailgate as well as doing any other updates that were needed. Great value IMO. And a box of Thorntons chocolates as I left.

You must be a nicer fellow than me, for when I go to the dealer I get no sweeties or anything :(

But I take your point onboard re Indies, MB of Glasgow were the same price for an ATF change as other Indies, and that includes the mark up MB charge on the oil making the labour for the job about £100.

I should have supplied the oil.
