Having recently changed my wheels and tyres from 225/55/16 to 245/45/17 I wonder if the tyre pressure label on the fuel filler still applies.

Normal driving/weight
29 front, 32 rear.

Are there different pressures for 17 wheels? Can someone with a W211 on 17" wheels please tell me?

Thanks,

The pressure is a weight issue, and should stay the same irrespective of the tyres fitted, When the side wall is smaller as it will be after fitting larger wheels, some of us use the higher car loaded figure to avoid wheel damage in pot holes, and no problems doing that on a 211

Thanks,

I put 34 in front and rear and have always put in a bit more that what the manufacturer says.

Lots of useful info fellas.

I'd like the reference point of what is officially published by Mercedes for an S211 320CDi on 17 wheels. Where might I find this?

Thanks,

That's where I started, but mine has 16" wheels, hence the request about a car with 17" wheels.

It does stay the same, even on the 17" wheels.

I have a 2004 W211 E320 CDi Avantgarde. It came with factory fitted 17" wheels. The tyres are Continental 245/45 ZR 17.

The tyre pressure chart stuck to the inside of the fuel filler cover gives the following tyre pressures:

Up to 130 mph:

Normal Load (3 persons/3 suitcases) : 29 psi Front / 30 psi Rear

Heavy Load (5 persons/5 suitcases) : 32 psi Front / 38 psi Rear

However, if your suitcases are full of contraband and you need to outrun the authorities at speeds in excess of 130 mph ;) the recommended tyre pressures are:

Normal Load (3 persons/3 suitcases) : 32 psi Front / 32 psi Rear

Heavy Load (5 persons/5 suitcases) : 36 psi Front / 42 psi Rear

The extra speed is a heat thing, the sidewall flex, so the increased speed requires the extra inflation.

Does it mention speeds over 175 ;)

Thanks for the info.

Looks like the front remains the same at 29 (16 and 17) whilst the rears drop from 32 (16) to 30 (17). Mine is an estate but I don't expect that makes any difference to the rear pressures under normal load/speed conditions.

I would still use the higher setting of the 2, because of the lower sidewall height

245 tyres and 29/30psi you'll be replacing tyres at a fair old lick with perfect inner 70% tread and bald edges. I find 32/36 about right.
I also run the rears a bit higher and they wear more evenly. The previous fronts I had major issues with however following a camber adjustment on the front they are doing better.
