Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Hi there,

Got a 01/51 CLK fitted with Comand from new.

When the first owner had the Comand spec'd he didn't get the telephone pre-wire (dopey git) so now I have Comand but no wires for the phone at all.

Spoke to the dealer, who referred me to a local "specialist" who quoted £1100-1500 to fit the pre-wiring for the phone and then bluetooth, and even THEN said it wouldn't be the full bluetooth that downloads the phone book etc to the unit!!!!!!!! He also said he could fit a Parot bluetooth, but then i'd have the ugly control in the car, it wouldn't work off the steering wheel etc etc.

Now call me daft, but I think I could get a whole new Comand fitted for that sort of money.

So my question is, do any of the Comand experts on here know if Bluetooth can be connected DIRECTLY to the Comand unit, and will it then work with the steering wheel controls - if so, how much is a SENSIBLE price to pay for that??

I also would like to fit a reversing camera to the Comand but understand that may not be possible - but could I fit it to one of the TV channels and do it that way - I realise I might have to press "TV" and then channel "0" or something, but that would be ok - I might also have to turn off the thing that makes the picture cut out over 2mph as well though or it woudn't be much use!

Thanks all in advance.

I don't understand why they couldn't get full bluetooth working once you'd had the prewire fitted but fitting prewire is an expensive prospect and without it there is really no way I know of to interface with command. If you did get it done, the best way is probably to use a Nokia prewire cradle with a Viseeo 100 unit to trick it into thinking it has a nokia phone installed. (no bluetooth from MB in 2001 and UHI interchangeable cradles didn't come out until 2004 so no official way to do it afaik).
All that said, the cost for that lot is silly given the value of the car.
The wheel controls aren't that great. I have them and to be honest rarely use them. They work well enough but its somehow easier to tap the buttons on the radio to answer or dial.
I'd go with a parrot if you want a display or maybe the nokia CK7W if you're happy with a small unobtrusive button.
Anything else is overkill.

I couldnt find anything for my comand 2, clk 02. And it seems there isnt really anything we can do as the bluetooth comand kits were for 04 onwards it seems. I ended up with a nokia CK7W

If you have the old pre-wire system with a nokia cradle, Viseeo make a device that pretends to be a nokia phone but is actually a bluetooth interface. Its the same size and shape as the phone so clips in, in the normal way.

Mine is not configured for TV or Phone so I guess thats why I had to get the Nokia BT system

I have just fitted the full cradle system from a 2002 S Class into my 2003 S Class. Got all the parts from a breaker for less than £100.00 (including the fibre D2b ring which made the CD changer I bought work as well!) The only other parts were the microphone and a wire to run the mic (Thanks Malcolm!)

Finally one of the Viseeo units from Comandonline and everything works a la factory fit!!

Check out some of the breakers yards and do what I did and go down and take everything out you need.... makes the world of difference!
