Hi

I would be grateful if someone in the know could help me identify where the lower wishbone bush is located. Attached are 3 pics of my Front/nearside suspension (with wheel removed) to help you!

Also, does anyone know what a wishbone bush looks like and is made of (metal? rubber?).

Thanks.

Hi,
What I believe to be the lower wishbone bush/bushes in this instance, is the lower wishbone which the lower end of the spring and shock absorber fit too, it is the two bushes in the arm that bolts go through fixing the arm to the front cross member, if these are worn it can put the camber/castor out on the car. IIRC they rubber bushes sleeved with metal.
These bushes started to go on my C class, and a new arm was purchased as the bushes can be difficult to change, and with labour charges the way they are it was deemed to be cheaper (and easier) to replace the complete arm, the arm was in the region £80 from ECP if I recall correctly.

Thanks gents. I'm on a steep learning curve so please bear with me...

The correct MB terminology for what my garage has described as the 'lower wishbone' appears to be the 'Transverse Control Arm'. I can see this in Malcom's diagram but when I look at the lower diagram, I am unable to tell from the parts explosion which parts are the 'bushes'. Can you be a little more specific please. Thanks

[P.S. For the uninitiated, the 'Transverse Control Arm' is also visible in my photos 2 & 3 - photo 2 giving a top-down view of the end of the arm which is closest to the wheel. As you can see, the coil spring and shock absorber attach to this arm.]

The bushes are 62 in my link, they come as a repair kit and you can see them in the lower picture in the link

Supplementary but related question: would I be right in thinking that to replace the bushes, you also have to remove the coil springs (which are under tension of course)?

Yse that has to come out first and best done with special compressor for MB springs, unless you undo the axle bolts and lower it on a trolley jack.. Dangerous things are springs

Ouch! I can imagine. Many thanks for the confirmation. Best left to a pro I reckon.

An MB indie can do this in no time, its so much easier once you have done one
