Convert E280 auto engine to smaller E200 engine (W124 estate)

Hello.

I own a E280 estate '95 auto (in gold and 7 cream leather seats-very nice!) and I want to down size the engine to a 2.0L or a 2.2L as we don't really need such a big engine anymore and aim to get more MPG and then convert to LPG my self (trained to do so). I have a E200 donor car in mind.

My Questions are;

1) Has anybody done this before and how easy/hard is it?

2) what will be the major problems - the ones i can see are there are
a) 2 fuel pipe leads to the 2.8L inlet manifold and i believe there is only one to the 2.0L.
b)The donor car is not an estate-suspension leveling issues?
c) And apart from the ECU which I will have to change and the loom for injection is there any other wiring changes?

3) Also is there any body out there that could under take this job just for info?

Why???? A w124 200 isn't very econimical and is gutless anyway. The differences between the cars are vastly more than just a different engine- gearbox, back axle, suspension etc etc

Unless you do a lot of miles just put the petrol in the 280, knowing that you are comfy, safe and not spending hundreds each month on finance and depreciation.

You also might want to change your name to 'lesspower' ?

Right, jokes out of the way, why would you want to do this? Huge amount of work and possibly quite pricey to boot. Especially if you're thinking of farming the work out. Convert your current engine to LPG and enjoy it. :)

If your car is already so nice then sell it as is ?--I would not get a 200 --?
(no advantage in milage) I am speaking from experience of 12 years ownership w124 te,s
look for the 220te with the M111 engine like my current one (now 78K )- as in C class later e and slk--they very are hard to find in good condition ( and even rarer with low miles ) as they were only made for one about year-before they changed models to w210

Now to answer the above

I do cover alot of miles so thats why I would like to down size and covert to LPG to enjoy quality motoring in my estate at the cheapest running costs.

Also I already have a E280 saloon running on LPG and I know I can improve on this on my next possible project i.e 2.0L or 2.2L on LPG in my estate.

teddy, I don't want to sell my car as it took some time to find the colour and interior spec.

Buy a 220.
Swap the interior.
Sell the 280.

If you are keeping it then LPG -will save a bit ? or BIO fuel --run it on veg oil ?--but why bother leave it alone and enjoy it.

The buy the 220 and exchange the interior is not a bad idea but finding the right body colour (gold/champagne) is going to be really an issue.

The user that mentioned 'change it to diesel' has given the same response on alot of threads (LOL :lol:) but not a bad idea but no.

I might just go with teddy as he said he has had some experience with the engines and has said there is not much difference between the MPG in a 2.8L's and 2.0L's MPG.

Thanks guys, I think i'll have to look at the next common issue now of the car misfiring :( as mine has now started. I think i'll start with the coil pack and then move onto the loom unless any body knows better?
