Hi all,

How do I remove the rear view mirror please? I've had a look at the Russian site and it seems to fix onto a bracket, but I can't see exactly how it fits or fixes. Do I just yank hard (as described elsewhere for the 190E rvm)?

Thanks

The mirror is held in with sprung ball bearings at the left & right sides. They hold it in place very tightly

I think a sharp yank would be the best approach

Ok, here's some feedback which will hopefully be helpful to others.

I gave it two very hard yanks in the direction towards the rear screen and this released the front edge. Another two hard yanks released the rear edge. Then I saw what had happened. The sprung bearings had stayed in place and it was the bracket mounted to the roof that had come off. Two fixing screws had pulled out of their holes; the third had broken off. On close inspection, I can get the screws back in, so no real harm done, and this is my 'donor' car anyway.

So the sprung bearings are very, very tight indeed. I will post a pic showing what they look like and how they sit.

In retrospect, I should have pulled sideways to release one side, then the other. Is that correct Nick?

(BTW, I was removing the rv mirror to remove the trim panel, so I could get to the electrical bits for the illuminated vanity mirrors. The donor car has them; the cannibal does not, so it seemed a good idea to move them over, and removing the rv mirror has proved to be a good dry run for removing the cannibal's rv mirror.)

As promised, here is the pic of what the sprung bearings look like and how they sit, when in situ.

Looks like I should have pulled to the left or right, rather than back and forth? :(

I know that they are made to come off when a head hits it in a accident, the head will hit the side óf the mirror as its central and the head is not. I have knocked them off simply by say working under the dash, and pulling myself up.
