Ive had a few issues with my ECU on my cl500, sent it away for repair and no faults found, looks like the software has become corrupt and nothing more than that.
I didnt have Star dioags at the time but now I do, my old ECU is with me now and I have another ECU waiting to be fitted, all I need to do is look at the code on my ECU and enter the code on the other ECU.
Problem I have is this when I try to view the code on my ECU star comes abck and displays the message "Engine control unit module is implausably coded" So I cant see what the code should.

Where can I get the code from for my ECU, ive spoken to my contact at MB and there isnt much help there to be had !!! so Im stuck, if I buy a new ECU directly from MB I will still need my code before it will work.
Anyone out there have any suggestions please.

Mb should have all the correct details for recoding a new ECU for your car. If your old ECU was burnt out or damaged then it cant be read, so somehwere there must be an original programme for your car.. ....Some of the Techies will be able to put you right..

They will be happy to pull up the data sheet "if" there doing the job, i have a lot of contacts still in the mb dealer network, same answer, "we need the car"

Jib I would suggest that you spend a day on the phone, call each and every Mb dealer, speak to parts and to the service manager, work on the premise that someone has stolen or lost the ecu from your car...ie you do not have an old ecu.. ask what you need to do to get a new ecu and your car up and running.. Biggest problem i think you are gonna have is convincing them that you are the genuine owner and havent stolen the motor..

The ECU I have is 2nd hand but from what I can gather I can recode, I could be wrong on this.

Well the contact I have at MB cambs is very good and will if pushed a little do anything if required, but with this one things are looking bleak.

Well the way I see it its my data sheet so I want that info, it belongs to my car. If I get a legal chap on the case will that make a difference. Perhaps not.

Well I deleted anything the ECU had stored and yet the car still runs !!!! which is odd thought it wouldnt start. if I dont get anywhere then the next option is to find a tree, a big one and see how well it does against somfink that dont move. Had it with this CL its cost me over 2k in that last month.

Agree Pete great car in many respects and should you be going to the next duxford meet than I would be more than happy to let you have a drive, I have on many occasions thought about selling but I cant think of anything to replace it with, I have the use of a W124, W203 and SLK none of which compare.

Maybe a Bentley next.........umm

Two issues:-
1. The software program. This can be read out of a working ECU via KWP2000 or equivalent flash programmer which works over the diagnostic socket (OBD). It can then be re-flashed into the old ECU by swapping the ECU out for the old one and performing a re-program.
2. Coding of the ECU. Ive had lots of issues on this, basically once coded, cannot be recoded unless you can re-flash the parts of the ECU which store it (normally from what I gather, the flash-rom inside the microcontroller inside the ECU).

I never got very far on 2, it can be done, but needs someone with the knowledge of the Siemens Infineon Microcontroller and also the programming gear to directly inject data into the Microcontroller.

Try 1 first, if the old ECU ran on your car, then its coded for your car, so hopefully just re-flashing the software program will solve your problem. All you need is KWP2000 albeit the STAR system is supposed to be able to re-flash the software as well, no idea on how to do this though.

Ive re-flashed a number of times (and re-read out to verify) my (old) ML270 ECU and also my Fiat Ducato 2.8JTD ECU, so it does work.

PS

My CL is a 1995 car and from what I info I can find suggests that coding can be entered onto another ECU, the spare ECU I have was easy, I found the code via star, made a note of it 032001095 deleted the code from the ECU, when I then looked for the code it requested I enter the code as it didnt have one so I entered 032001095 and it worked.

But as my code or software on my original ECU is corrupt I cant move forward without the code.

I ahve also been told that the same Bosch ECU with the same part number will work on my car without coding but not sure on that one.

See attached this info came off EPC, the part number for my ECU has been replaced and the footnote makes reference to Code NR with a list of 9 digit codes, the code on the good ECU is 9 digit but start 032 001 095 I can see 064 001 095 so is it probable that one of those codes on the list could be my code assuming they all start 032 *** ***

grasping at straws here.........................
