C220 CDI Elegance (W202 version) Year 2000.

Whilst driving to work I lowered my front electric windows slightly. At work the drivers door window closed no problem but the passanger window would not close (no response from the switch). On leaving the car my Central Locking would also not work. Now three days later my drivers door window is also not working. The back windows are operating normally. I have checked all of the fuses and relays in the engine compartment and boot but all seem to be normal.

Can anyone please help.

Hello and welcome to the forum,, this will be a problem with the control units in the doors where moisture gets in, I will check later but in that year of car there are controllers in both doors

Your Right

Malcolm, thanks very much for your reply. It all becomes a little clearer now. I have just come back from holiday and my car was very dirty. The night before my problems began I power washed it quite vigorously. I know that my front window door seals are corroded so I think I will have forced water into the doors. I bet your diagnosis is right on the mark! Thanks ever so much..

Malcolm, you obviously know your Mercedes, would you mind a few more questions....Will I need new ones? What do Mercedes call them? Will I also need to fit new parts to my Central Locking?

Thanks again, I am very happy to be part of the Forum.
Regards
Stuart

Really the door cards should be taken off if the fault persist and dry the ECUs. One never knows if new ones would be needed, though most dry out, and as you have not had this trouble before it may just go away. Your car is a very late one and will have the modified controllers. the battery disconnected for a while would clear any memory faults

Thanks Malcolm, I am a little confused as to why it has affected the Central Locking as well unless the same card signals that too.

If water did get in the car can do funny things, is the locking still not working

The locking is all vacuum controlled,do all the locks work from the key, or does the drivers door lock the car

Malcolm,
On Friday afternoon I am going to open up the panels and have a good look around. My panels have no screws. I noticed from one of your other posts that you sent details of how to remove the panels to another member. Do you think that you could send the same to me, my email address is on my profile.
Thanks again for your time.

Further to my post yesterday, I find that the Central Locking key fob flashes my lights on open but not on lock, so I now think that the problem is electronic possibly affected by water in the doors.

I am still not sure if your PSE pump is working, you can hear it run for a few seconds when pressing the remote

Checked the controller in the passenger door this weekend. It was dry and no evidence of any water anywhere. Now I am puzzled.

Hi, This is a common problem on both the 202 and 210. The fault will be one of the rear door control modules, usually the right side. These modules do suffer water ingress but they also go faulty when dry.
Easiest way to check this is to disconnect the rear modules. This should leave everything else working. Bearing in mind that the symptoms can vary and be intermittent it is a good idea to leave them disconnected for a few days to prove the fault. I normally disconnect just the right one first.
New modules come complete with window motor and mechanism.

Thanks very much for your advice Autofix. I have a new developement. I have just disconnected my battery for two or three minutes and my windows are now working properly. However, my Central Locking is still not working.

I don't think I am 'out of the woods' yet but its a start. I will try out what you said. Thanks to Malcolm I am now an expert at removing door panels!

Your thoughts and experience are much appreciated.

Autofix,

I will disconnect the back control units tonight. Windows all over the place again this morning. Thanks for your help, but I am a bit confused about the units coming with motor and winding mechanism, I thought they came alone as just one ECU.
