Hi all:)

Am new in here!

I have recently bought an SL350. It is a lovely car, I love it!:D

On the screen it's showing "A service extended by 66 days". The car has only done 20,000 Miles. It's 4 yrs old and I think it needs the big service but I am not sure if to go for A or B service.

I contacted Mercedes in Colindale London and the person I spoke to, adviced me to take the B service since it's not been serviced B4. I was given some very high prices:confused::confused: mmmmm...

Here are some quotes I was given...

the car will be collected between 8.30am and 11am

B Service with brake fluid change - combination filter change - air filter change - fuel filter change - spark plugs change - complimentary healthcheck - complimentary wash - complimentary MOT when due - complimentary collection/delivery
£1257.90 inc parts, labour and vat

Supply & fit Tracker Horizon £486.00 inc parts, labour and vat
Supply set of black velour mats £67.99 - please confirm if not required
Do you require an MOT at this time? If so please let me know and we will complete at same time

Is this the normal price for MB service?

Please advice a newbie.

Many thanx

We could do all of the above (apart from the tracker and mats) for less than half that, well quiet a bit more than half looking at it, yes, that is the normal rip of prices for a hour or twos work!!

Welcome to the forums!

I was quoted £499 for a B service and that was an SL55. I think I know what I would tell them to do.

Ask S-A-M-U-N-I-T to do it for you.

Hi all:)

I am not sure if to go for A or B service.

First of all, welcome to the Forum - you have come to the right place. Others will be sure to advise, but my thoughts are:
  1. the car will tell you which service it wants
  2. oil, filters and brake fluid change are all reasonable
  3. spark plugs should be good for about double the mileage and done by a dealer they are expensive
  4. given a total price of £1257.90, what precisely is complimentary about any of this?
  5. you will know whether an MOT is required - if you bought the car recently, did it not have a fresh MOT? If you bought it from a dealer, the usual guideline is that it should have been serviced if the service would be due within 3 months/3,000 miles (opinions vary on precise criteria, but this is not far off).
I would hesitate to buy velour mats at that price - does the car not have satisfactory floor mats? This sounds like "inertia selling" - you will have bought it unless you specifically say no.

Tracker is also a personal choice.

I personally would not encourage a dealer with free access to your wallet in this way. There is lots of debate on the forum as to whether to use dealers or not, and the zealots on either side of the debate will no doubt emerge.

You should not have to wait long for others to contribute, and that should enable you to make a balanced decision.

Sounds like an excellent car - any pics?

OK, I only have a humble 2005 C270CDI, but serviced by MB in Bristol today, Service £215, brake fluid £57.50, fuel filter £55, they also supplied an air filter for £20 which I will fit. The wheels have a little corrosion and they have applied to MB for good 'wheel' attention.....

So, bottom line, service, brake fluid, filters and joke for about £350

Hi again:)

Thank you for your replies. I am happy I found this site!

I bought the car 2 wks ago from a private seller, the car has M.O.T until October 2009.

The service showing on the "cockpit" computer, says service A and extended for about 66 days. As for the marts.... the inside is cream and so are the floor marts which gets dirty easily, so I thought I should buy black ones since the car is black. It did not come with the tracker and I think for London it would be wise to have one fitted.

I would like to have a Mercedes full service history with the MB stamps just incase I plan to sell it one day.

More info highly welcome PLEASE

Thanx

I used to think the same way, but the money you save more than outweighs what you lose out on. I had to wait nearly 3 hours for MB breakdown and have a little man jump start my car in London. My car wouldn't be worth any less to somebody with sense, so, is it really worth £250 per service for that level of service?

MB "B" service - £499
Indy "B" service - £400
S-A-M-U-N-I-T "B" service - mega bucks less. It's well worth driving from Norwich to Southampton to get it done and I still save shedloads.

Don't be fooled by what the dealers tell you!

Good points Helen. And well made. I have sold several MBs, at least 3 of them to dealers. I have had 2 lots of rust dealt with under warranty by MB and nobody has ever asked to see the service record of any of these cars. ;)

I am impressed though that even after driving from Norwich to Southampton and back at 8 mpg the sums still work out better!?:rolleyes:
