We have a Mercedes C240, bought it 3 months ago and have had nothing but trouble with it!! we had it serviced and a few other bits done, it has been making a intermittent grinding noise when accelerating mainly seems to be up a slight hill, then last week the car cut out whilst waiting at traffic lights, same happened again 2 days ago! today been out in the car no problems until i just tried starting it, and it will not start!! it turns over but will not start.

anybody any ideas really appreciate it... before we go out and buy a new starter motor!

If you are trying to start a warm engine and it fails to start it could well be the crankshaft position sensor. Does it start normally from cold? Common problem on W210's, but fortunately not too expensive at around £60

Sounds like it needs to be hooked up to a Star to find out exactly what the problem is. Buying another starter motor won't necessarily cure the problem, especially if the engine is turning over.

Maybe someone else can give some other ideas?

Rear of the engine to the right as you look at it, pull the top cover of, just behind the right hand side head, got a 2 pin square plug going to it!

Well what a nightmare we are having with this, last week our friend tried to fit the crankshaft sensor but was unable to do so, he found it very difficult to get to it (never fitted one before). We have now taken the part along to a garage who quoted us £35 to fit it, he was unable to get the old one off apparently it does happen!! & now he has to take the gear box off in order to fit the crankshaft  £500 the bill went up to  but as we are paying cash it suddenly dropped down to £300

This is a Mercedes specialist in droylsden Manchester have we been had yet again? or does this seem okay?

cheers
