Hi all,
Whilst changing the oil and filter on my W203 (2003) C270 CDI the other day I removed the Power steering fluid cap.. It looks pretty low BUT..
1. How do I check the level. Engine running or stopped??
2. If it needs fluid does it have to be MB's own or can I use car accesory shop stuff?
Thanks in advnce for any help.
S.

i usually check the level with the engine stopped although i dont think it makes too much difference. ive seen people check it on other makes with the engine running! as far as im aware, its just ordinary atf which can be obtained anywhere. im sure someone will be able to confirm this though. either that or i find out ive got it wrong! :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

oh bu**er!! so is that the same for all models or just newer ones? i almost put some atf in mine, but couldnt find it! :Oops:

im glad that i said "as far as im aware" in that other post though and that "someone would confirm or tell me im wrong!" at least i knew i had an element of doubt. :shock:

sometimes its better to post something though i think, if only to keep the thread alive till the problem is resolved. im gutted that ive broken my good run though. :(

normal service has been resumed! or temporarily suspended, depending on how you look at it!! :lol:

We all read things wrong Malc, there's no harm done, was just surprised by a 203 having ATF for steering fluid! knew it was wrong!

I use this for the PAS on my W124;

A0009898803

It's about £6 per litre, and, as you can replace all the PAS fluid with about 2 litres, it's never going to bankrupt you!

I don't know if this oil is applicable for later models though.
