Hi All,

I have a bit of knocking noise when the car is being driven, the noise is worse when i drive over a bump. It feels like a knocking noise/play somewhere underneath the car.

Any ideas of what the problem can be and how can i further diagnose ?

Thanks

Right.

Thanks for the response, I will have to take it to the Mechanic to get this confirmed, or is there anything that I can do to check it myself without lifting the car up etc.

Also, with mechanics. I know they always insist on buying parts from partco and other vendors, but personally I like to buy most parts from Mercedes and give this to the mechanic, what are the thoughts of other users on this.

genuine MB or OEM parts (ie made by the company that supplies them to MB) are always best in my book. fit better, last longer and cost little or no more! personally id not buy anything else!

Check your local MB first - then MB Manchester - I can't remember if it was on this or the other forum I found the post about cheap suspension parts, think the guy's username was partsspecialist, but I got all the bits needed to cure the knocking on the front of my S203 from him, all genuine MB, at a good price - then got new front pads and discs at a price my local village garage could not match, even with pattern parts. MB Eastbourne were only a few quid more expensive for the same parts. I bought my parts from MB Manchester (and I'm in East Kent, close to MB Ashford!) then had them fitted by my village garage, £115 to fit new roll bar, lower links (including bushes which they had to fit) and the bits with rose joints each end, then £50 to fit new front discs and pads.

Just go to your normal garage and ask them to check the drop links back and front, or the roll bar rubbers,,is the car a 202 or 203 as I could put up some links

I generally get 20% off parts and over 30% off labour at MB Manchester. At least some dealers are recognising we are in a credit crunch.

I'm guessing you are related to the motor industry i.e mechanic etc. How will I get such discounts in London ?

The rubber bushes are 20 and the drop links 50 in the link for the front. Any free play in the links will make a knocking when going over bumps

The rear are 20 and 70

Its also worth checking the ball joints for free play in the end of 140

All of the parts are cheap from MB

No, I am a university lecturer with no relationship to the industry. Actually it was MB Manchester that started by offering discounts for the older cars. I have just made sure that the discount is continued for everything I get from them. You should be able to get at least 10% by being a member of this group.

Thanks for point this out, really appreciated. but is there a risk of still using the car for a short time before fixing the car. The mechanic is fully booked for a week or so, but was wondering whether i can still carry on using the car without causing any further damage.

Thanks
