I cruised back after buying it at between 60-75mph, and I got about 23mpg!

Ah well, it looks great anyway.

Count yourself lucky mate. 23 MPG was the stuff of dreams last year when I was running my Jaguar Sovereign XJ12, with its 5.3 litre engine. I averaged 11 MPG, but so what, with an engine that sounds that good (closest thing to a jet engine without buying a Leah!!) who cares.
I'm on the lookout for a 560 SEL now. Yep, a glutten for punishment!!!!!!

I don't feel quite so bad then...

I was originally looking for a 280 or 300, but I was told that the smaller V8s can actually be a bit more economical than the sixes.

I nearly bought a 560SEL a couple of years ago, it was immaculate and had every toy possible on it (hydraulic suspension, memory seats, RECLINING rear seat, even an electric blind on the rear screen!). I was doing a fair amount of miles then, so I dithered over it, it was sold for £1500!

Yes, you cannot run this one on veg oil and I must remember where to put the apostrophes  Did you ever get that engine running?

Aye, my veg days are over, for now anyway.....

You mean the Lombardini? Yeah, I got that going, it ran quite well. I'd also got my hands on an old 4kW induction motor and was planning to have a crack at an IMAG project, but with a change of job I lost my storage and work space :( I had to get rid of nearly all my junk :(

How's the E-class going? The w210s are nearly old enough for me to start considering... (What am I saying?! RUST!)

Do Malcolm or any of the old posse still post on here?

At 23mpg it is!
The old man had one when it was new and I don't thing it was any better then, only he was quite pleased with 23 after the 20 his 280E did.
Wonderful car the 420SE, If I was doing less mileage I'd have one myself.

Yes they do and we are only a few old members down since your trip to Ireland.

So please that you are back if the fold.

We can start on some economy threads now :D:D

I got just over 22mpg in my 500SEC on a run down to Cornwall. As to round town? Don't know I think if I ever stopped to work it out I'd never have it on the road!
