Dear Members.
My drivers side window is making an awful banging noise as i bring the window up. It strains it's way up only to suddenly stop about an inch from the top, yet the motor is still running and bangs/thumps, you can see it pounding the inside of the door facia.
I am able to pull the window to the top by hand and manually back down, so seems like iv'e got a problem.
Anyone relate to this.
Thanks.
Mike.

Diy if you want to do it, you need a new regulator OR a good welder can put the teeth back on your old one.

Had a similar problem but it was only the missus banging on the window to tell me my dinner was in the dog....

2 years ago I was told that the regulator needed replacing on my 99 SL drivers window and then 2 months after that the motor went.

I now have that banging problem with the passenger side. This time the indie says it is the teeth on the motor, which ties in with what Malcolm said above, but I am confused as to why someone else is talking about the regulator for the same problem.

Sorry but I know bu***r all about these things!

Rob

PS Just been quoted £201 by Merc for new motor, cannot get one anywhere else.

Sometimes when the door has memory windows it can be called that as it combines some electronics

No big deal with this one a common problem-Take it out as TV says but remove the fuse 1st to isolate the motor --its seperate and the other windows will work ok while you do the job --just wedge the window closed with 2 small wooden pegs and you can still use the car.---bit of a fiddly job getting it out though --check the teeth on the ratchet system --you will find the end ones worn flat--(causing the small cog on the motor to turn jumping them and causing the banging) The options are weld the teeth and shape them up to match the others --cut out the bar with the teeth in and weld a new set in or turn it round the opposite way so good teeth are at the top ---or change the whole unit for a good 2cnd hand one.

So £200 from Mercedes plus fitting cost is the going rate for those of us who struggle with changing the brush head on my electric toothbrush?
