My glow plug warning light is coming on after starting vehicle on my 2005 C320CDi, it goes out when you turn the ignition on but then once engine started it comes back on?? It subsequently goes of then after about 10 mins driving. There is no engine performance drop of or any loss of MPG.

Has anyone any ideas what this is?? Would like an idea beore I head of to Mercedes as car still under warranty.

Cheers

One or more of the glow plugs has failed. Plugging into a diagnostic computer will identify which ones.

Save your money on diagnostics, just replace ALL your heater plugs, they are a servicable item and cost approx £12 each, they are probably due replacement anyway if they are the originals from 2005 and it is false economy to only replace the defective one(s) as the rest will soon follow the same fate.

Edit...........Just noticed you say the car is still under warranty........ they will probably only replace the faulty plugs 'foc' .........it might be a good idea to offer to pay any difference for them to replace ALL plugs at the same time.

Also possible that the glow plug relay may have blown a link or two , these can be repaired..

My Mother works in a local garage so the mechanic there used his snap on diagnostic tool which showed error code P2135. This was unlisted, anyone with Benz knowledge know what it is??? Spoke to Mercedes but they said its a servicableitem so I will have to pay, funny but on several diesel cars I have owned including some right bangers I have never had to change a glow plug before let alone on a four year old Mercedes!!!!!

Glow plugs will fail, mine went at about 65k but the replacements are still doing good at 160k, almost 100k on the replacements. I agree with panasonic, just replace the lot. They sometimes stick and/or break too so its best to get MB to do them.

I had a diesel Fiat and the life was 12k but it only took 10 minutes to replace the 4. The Peugeot plugs lasted 100k miles. Varies quite a bit between manufacturers.

If they break............it's YOUR problem........financially.........trust me!

MB will, without doubt, warn you that there is a risk that the plugs could break and that would incur extra cost at your expense.
