No, not the Ewan McGregor/Charley Boorman trip!

This afternoon I fitted an amp to go with the aftermarket head unit that I fitted a couple of weeks ago and then decided to try it out with a quick trip 'around the block'

Trouble is, around the block consisted of 30 miles and 1 hr! And this isn't the first time a quick trip out in the SLK has resulted in a lengthy journey just so that I can enjoy the pleasure of driving it.

Is it just me or do others find themselves extending their journeys so that they can enjoy the 'MB experience'?:lol:

I get it all the time, costs me a fortune in petrol.

Yeah I know what you both mean. I also didn't factor in all these 'extra' miles when I originally budgeted for the running costs!

Glad it's not just me that extends their journey.

What stereo/Amp have you changed to?

The cd/radio is a Silver Crest (who, I hear you ask!:)) which I got on offer in Lidl when a local store opened. It was originally in the Jeep but I've swapped it over as it has an SD card slot, USB input and Aux via a 2.5mm jack. The illumination even matches the SLK dash!

The main reason for changing to this unit is because the Audio 10 that was in the car won't play recorded cds which I tend to use in the car. But now that I have the SD slot I just load a card up with about 400 mp3s and don't have to bother leaving any cds in the car which is good if I leave it with the roof down.

The amp is an old Pioneer that I had lying around. I found that with the roof down the volume on the new head unit had to be turned up quite a bit as it doesn't have the auto volume increase function that the Audio 10 has and as a result the sound was distorting. The amp has sorted that now though.

Overall I'm really pleased with the set-up.

Found myself doing so today. Leisurely trip to run errands and visit my parents. No rush at all. Returned home and somebody called me asking me to return to the shops to pick up something. Traffic jams there and back. Items not there. Me? Couldn't be bothered. Was actually considering a long way around the traffic jams just for the sake of it. This is the extra cost of MBs that isn't mentioned during purchase. LoL

Going out again shortly. Was quick to mention that my car will be the main transport. Aaaah!

I simply enjoyed cleaning the wheels and shine the tyres this afternoon...I felt as though I owed it to the car since she is responding to my cure to her snag. Simply enjoyable I say!

I had the same problem in the audio 10 in my old w210 that didnt play my homemade CDs and i discovered it was just the type of blank Cds i used. so when i used the blank CDs the audio 10 liked it was ok.

I would love to have a usb or card slot in my w211 instead of my machine from hong kong that sends my music through an FM signal.

I never thought of changing the type of blank cds to be honest.

I can thoroughly recommend a SD card or USB facility in the head unit though as it makes life so much easier than messing about with discs. I've got a spare 40GB laptop hard drive which I could connect via the USB as it needs no separate power source and I could put my entire music collection on that! :D Just need to find the time to load it up!!

problem is the w211s is built into the dash so cant be replaced with an ordinary stereo :(

Or you could get an IPOD adaptor for your car and play songs with nice crisp sound via your headunit

Yeah, the head unit will also take an Ipod input but I don't have an Ipod. (Must be one of the few people who don't)
