Maybe it is, maybe it isn't!

I thought it worth posting just to put people on guard.

If it is indeed clogging up bandwidth,........well i am sure you will agree bandwidth has been used for worse reasons than warning us all of a potential scam.

You misunderstand me Chris.

When I say clogging up the bandwith I mean the internet as a whole not on this site. In 2007 the official estimate of spam messages reached 100 BILLION PER DAY ! "Spam" meaning unwanted messages of any sort - scams, phishing, hoaxes, chain letters etc., the current estimate is that 96.5% of all mail received by businesses is spam. This costs the industry billions of Pounds /Dollars annualy in productivity and having to constantly upgrade equipment to cope with the increasing bandwith - to move around what no ones actually wants!

I work in the IT Industry and see countless warnings day after day I'm afraid. The warnings are always incredibly vauge and they rely on scaremongering tactics so that people will post the message on forums or email all their friends and contacts so that the rubbish perpetuates.

Yes, there are a lot of nasty suprises attached to emails if you are not well protected but a simple "google" of the email address or the headline will give you a clue as to how genuine these things are..

At work, last month we saw a slight drop in the total spam, but we had a total 732million emails as a group, and less than 4% of these are genuine
