As I browsed I went onto our nearest Main Dealer site to see what E class Used saloon cars they had. I found that across the whole dealership they only had 2 cars on offer, previously they have had about 20, so I had a look at their C class stock 6. Are good used ones getting scarce ?

Yes because people are hanging on to their cars longer because of the recession there are not so many used ones about and they are commanding fairly good prices. Having said that because of the same downturn used ones are not selling that quickly as I see the same ones in several dealers stock I have been monitoring for months.

The dealers do not want huge stocks right now,,owing to the falling prices, and also as above,,the new sales are down as well, so less in PX

Just had an email from my dealer inviting me to visit next w/e for a free valet and valuation!!
Seems they are wanting to build up their stocks. Senior management have authorised the purchase of customer cars at higher than normal prices...

MB Giffnock sent me a letter 2 months ago offering higher than normal prices as good used MB's are thin on the ground & they require some. Must be less than 5 years old though.

Again!! You've washed it once this year already!!
:D:D:D

Aye, its close to being graffitied in the office car park again. Such original comments like "wash me" "also available in black"

Believe it or not 2 weeks ago I washed and POLISHED it. I have never polished a car in my life and I did like the results but would rather someone else do it, especially if its free :cool:

Trying to flog me another E or an S allegedly. Lots of great deals etc....
I said what I suspect a lot of owners are saying. I'm still very happy with my car at the moment so I'm going to hold on to it for at least another year or so.
Thats the thing with mercs, they don't 'need' changing as often as other cars.So in a downturn we'll hold on to them.

our local stealers has a salesman who, upon seeing me in my old 210 admiring the 212, told me he could "soon bring it into my budget". im sorry but how was he going to do that? payment plan of a fiver a week for 50years? otherwise he would have needed to be offering me about £35k for my 210! somehow i cant see that happening!

I dare you to push it, you could always offer him a few of your Post counts as a down payment if the PX is a bit short, then I might stand a chance of catching up with you.:lol:

We hate it when our cars go wrong but then when they don't, we don't want to change them!

I'm in real dilema with my wife's Honda Jazz. It's very nearly 6yrs old but (touching big piece of wood) has never had anything done other than routine services - not even a bulb has blown. It feels like it will run for ever but we've aready owned it for longer than any other car. It's probably going to cost towards £10K to renew it but just doesn't seem worth it especially as Honda have in some ways messed up the new Jazz, yet at the same time I'd find it hard to buy something when the Jazz has performed so well.

Struggling to get any type of customers

Yesterday I came in to a message from my local dealer, reminding me that my car is due and MOT and service, yes it is but not till Jan 2010. This particular dealer has only ever carried out two repairs for me when the car was less than 3 years old, and since then I have used a non specialist but extermely trustworthy garage where I know all the staff etc. So being on the books as a customer is one thing but, more than two and a half years since any business would suggest to me that they are going over all previous contacts to get in some work. If they had been more professional in my situations (yes both times) I might just have been a loyal customer. Dream on MB.

As for used E-Class I have noticed a slight increase in the prices asked most noticably in Autotrader, but I'm going to be another 12 to 18 months away from a change unless somthing special comes along.

I will advertise mine on here before going private and then as a last resort PX

The pound is weak, so a lot of cars will be heading away from our shores, reducing availability for UK residents.

ie. I got the ML500, 9000 miles, 1.5 year old for ~19K Pounds (realised value, ie. the number of Euros I had to spend at point of sale compared with prior yearly average conversion rate) as I bought near parity.

A lot of people (I know a few, ie. a friend bought A Porsche Boxter S, 2003, half price of the same car in Germany with less miles) are buying from the UK regardless of RHD as the UK is so cheap. A 67Grand car for 19Grand, after 18months, a scandal!

I've mentioned this before, but a German colleague of mine was astonished by how cheap used cars are in the UK. Depreciation in the UK is horrendous compared, it seems, to almost any other country.

Totally agree, I was looking around at what to get next and even finalised a shortlist. However I then took a step back and thought - hang on a minute - the only reason I'm looking is to get something a bit newer. My car still has plenty of life in it and to get something nearly new of equal spec and status again means I've got to add a good 10k plus onto the value of my car. I don't want to take out financial commitments the way things are in the current climate. My Merc is staying with me for the next year or two for sure.
