Hi,

My 124 estate has rust on both front wings but I confident enough in myself to be able to drive it without being embarrassed :)

Anyway, I have now noticed a new spot. When you open the drivers side rear door... down at the very left hand side I can see a spot. it is half hidden behing the plastic cill trim and is backing onto the wheel arch.

Is this a normal area for rust to appear? Does it indicate a much greater hidden problem?

yes i do expect that. what I'm wondering is, in this particular spot is it common knowledge that it means there is further rust on the s/cills which will cause MOT issues or PITA repairs.

Perhaps it's just a scab of rust that can be tended to. I don't know.

You can unclip the plastic trims,,at the worst you may have to replace a few clips

It might be worth taking a look

Look under the door seals at the top of the door frame and see if there's any rust there too.

OK I have found rust along the tops of the 2 rear door frames too!

Also the patch near the sill... I pulled back te piece of plastic trim the goes up from the sill up a bit of the rear wheel arch.... there was nothing holding the bottom clip in except thin air :(

Also found a bit on where two pieces of metal join on the drivers door footplate, near the front.

A quick question so.... I am in Ireland where we don't (usually) use salt on the roads. If I source another W124 car from the UK (more choice) are they all bound to go like this eventually or do some people have some that just don't rust badly at all?
