Hi I have a C280 auto and it has developed a fault. Here we go then, a noise that sounds like a bird (chirping) under the dash on the n/s when the noise stops it sets off the vac pump in the boot, it only apears to happen when using the throttle and has a timed pattern, has any one come across this before. It is not the song chirpy chirpy cheap cheap on replay lol. regards Steve.

a little more info please. i often need to ask our customers for more detail, and it is amazing how it often gets them thinking more deeply about the problem. info rquired eg;

engine hot/cold make any difference?

noise heard when car stationary?

you mention throttle, more specifically how does this relate? eg noise loudest at 3/4 throttle, high rpm, third gear etc etc. and please qualify the `timed pattern` bit with more specifics.

air con on/off affect noise?

steering, acceleration, braking, cornering, bumps affect noise?

can you be sure the noise is inside the cabin and not eg under the bonnet?

can you be sure the vacuum pump is always associated with the onset of the noise?

what climate controll do you have? is it lcd display with vacuum controlled flaps etc?

is the noise consistently repeatable (ie could you demonstrate on a roadtest)?

and your car, is that a late 90`s c280? chassis number would be good.

this list of questions is not complete and exhaustive, but should get you thinking a bit more, hope to hear back soon.

re noise

Sorry for not responding sooner as was on hols but back now, the noise now seems to stop when you turn the heater fan on to the first speed setting, it is the vac pump as we have had it out and felt it running in our mits.Also the cruise control is inop but has power to switch, do you think that this will have any connection with our problem. We will have to say no to your questions in your response, if this helps it will help us (hopefully) many thanks. Steve
