I shall be getting married in the Milton Keynes area in June 2010 and would love to hire a Mercedes-Benz W100 600 Grosser for our wedding car, but my search online is so far proving fruitless.

Does anybody know of someone who owns a 600 Grosser and would be keen to act as chauffeur on the special day?

Many thanks! :)

My comment may have been tongue in cheek but if your heart is set on it and you can't find one, write to Top Gear and suggest it! They may go for him dressing up and chauffeuring for the day. It'd make a great programme, maybe not a great wedding! Just a thought but good luck otherwise. JB

Jeremy Clarkson????

Hah, yes, his was the first name that sprang to mind for me too (and Jay Kay)! Curiously enough when we were looking at reception venues yesterday afternoon one particular hotel suite which we were shown around was in the process of being prepared for that very man... it occurred to me afterwards that I should have left a message on his pillow!

Good luck in your search - you have a mission on your hands to track one down!

They have a 600 pullman at Mercedes Benz world at Brooklands - I took a pic when I visited (attached).

Why not ask them for assistance / about it??? If they wont let you near it, they may put you in touch with an owner of one - who knows. If you really want one for the big day then anything is worth a try.

I'm sure they would even use their car if the price was right - Anythings possible - it all comes down to how much cash you throw at it. he he he

I think that would be a cracking idea. It would be free, fun, you would probably meet the team and you would probably be late.

Excellent idea though, well done Johnboy!

After the wedding, the car is ideal transport if you fancy setting yourself up as a despot of some banana republic. :D

But according to Jeremy Clarkson, everyone who owns one of these also has an air force - so it gets a bit pricey.

Must go, have to cut the grass on the helipad and check the lighting!

I had a dig around on the internet. Figured someone would be renting one and surprised they wer having trouble, but no, it seems they are hens teeth.

I presume the reason is what Clarkson demonstrated. Maintenance costs. Whilst you can run up a couple of grand servicing a roller, you can run up 16 grand servicing a grosser. A roller can be maintaned on the cheap to some extent, with after market parts, whereas a grosser probably can't.

Thanks very much for the heads-up. I shall most definitely investigate that particular avenue further.

Yes, I must admit that whilst I was expecting tracking a Grosser down to be a bit of a challenge, it's turning into a bit of a mission impossible. Next steps are to write to Top Gear (hoping that JC is feeling generous), Ask Goodwin (Autocar) and Mercedes Enthusiast magazine... I'm determined to get there in the end! :)

So, let's assume the worst case scenario that I'm unable to lay my hands on a Grosser... which classic Mercedes-Benz would you guys recommend as alternative ideal wedding transportation? I must admit that I do love the look of the various fintail cars, although something like a W111 may be equally tricky to obtain!

(Even if I do find a Grosser, I'll still need something to accommodate four bridesmaids!)

Any of these chaps would easily accommodate a bride in "full meringue".

I know of an open top Reliant Robin in a sort of grey/white bit of a smoker but it does run:cool:
