On start up, my 97, slk230 has a noisy tappet, the car is not used much, and I was wondering if there was an additive I can put in the oil to help the situation?

Hi Malcolm, it stayed for about 20 minutes, I was talking to a chap I know, car ticking over, and it just went quiet, and then was ok for the rest of the day, new oil and filter was done about 6 months ago, but it was done by the same Mercedes "specialist" who fitted the wrong plugs and lied about my other "faults".....maybe he has used cheap oil??

take the car out for a drive and then change the oil to mobil 1 and a fresh filter.

If it is still sticking you could try a bottle of Forte Top End Treatment which is good at sorting "lazy" tappets.

I don't like oil additives a good oil shouldn't need them and I believe that Merc warn against in the owners/servicing schedule. I have found however that using an oil flush before an oil change works wonders for sticking hydraulic tappets.
