Hi and welcome to the forum
Don't know about the loud clunk but it sounds like the injectors aren't sealing properly you can test this by filling the cavity around each injector with soapy water and if you look closely you might see minute bubbles that will show that they are leaking, then you need the re-seat the injectors

Smart + others :)
you need to see if you have air in the lines or you have a fuel pressure problem. Test leak off on the injectors.

could be that liquid deposits around the injector where blow out and vaporized which looks like smoke because of the leaking injector seat also do a leak off test like star said

have you checked for air bubles circulating in the clear plastic fuel pipes? common problem for poor starting. usually happens after someone has changed the fuel filter. the sealing between the top and the body of the housing is poor and easy to get an air draw there.

as said the other common cause of poor starting is the excessive leakoff from the injector/s, it is usually VERY obvious when you watch the leakoff!

can't check leakoff on star! just take the pipe off and watch.
