I was driving and when I put my foot down to accelerate, the car dropped down a gear, then the ESP warning came up on the display saying take to garage and the car lost all power and went into "safe - Limp" mode. It wouldn't allow me to go over 15 mph. Once I turned the engine off and then restarted the car everything was ok.

I have noticed previously that sometimes when I put my foot down to accelerate quickly to overtake the car hasn't been as responsive as it used to be.

Hello Greg and welcome to the forum :D:D

I think that a fault code read out will be needed to see what happened.

The MAF on the way out could explain the lack of acceleration

Do you have a good indie near you

ESP Warning Light C320

Hi Malcolm

What is a MAF and what does it do? Is it an expensive fix?

I was a bit concerned that the car lost power when I tried to accelerate to overtake. Is this something that will now get worse?

Yes I do have a good indie near me. Do you think I need to get the car into them urgently or am I going to be ok as long as I don't accelerate hard to leave it until later in the week/early next week? I am planning a long journey next weekend.

The MAF is the filter on the air intake line that sets up the cars fueling 119 in the link, you could unplug it and try the car,,often just turning off and on can clear it for a while.

They Cost from £57 for the insert to £150 from Boach service centers

i guess you can't help yourself then colin ;). it still amazes me when i try to catch the esp out on a rainy road test - a very effective safety aid indeed.
