When I was changing the front discs on my 190 at the weekend I noticed the front n/s tyre is very worn on the outer edge. Is this a symptom of any particular suspension component wearing out?

Cheers

Probably the tracking is out but it could be a loose wheel bearing, worn balljoint, etc. Is the tyre worn & feathered or just worn?

Yep, normal. Just about all RWD cars will wear front outers first, NSF outer being the most. The rears tend to wear in the middle. Lots of sport models now have more negative camber, moving wear areas to the inners.

I wouldn't accept uneven tyre wear. A small amount right on the outside of the shoulder is normal but not the full outside area. If you have wear on the outside, then, presuming you don't have worn or loose parts, you either have too much toe-in or too much positive camber(too little neg camber). Get the tracking checked.

Thanks Chaps

I think i might be verging on the "normal wear" advice as the tyres (Goodyear Ventura's) are nearing the end of their life - prob c8 mm on the inside edge and middle but down to the wear indicators on the outer edge. To add to it, now I think about it I have 3 tyres with slow alloy leaks that I have to inflate weekly, and that has probably been driven softer than is ideal a few times.

Cheers

Wear on out side of front tyres

I tend to over inflate the fronts to make the centre tread take more of the road contact. I seems to have worked over the last 2 years.

Not a good thing to over flate tyres front or rear for what you save, especially if road is wet or icy, safety comes first in my book. Hope this helps
