1981 Mercedes 280 SL - a little gutless!

Hi

I have the above vehicle and am gradually getting it into shape - it does seem a little gutless on acceleration especially on hills where it changes up quickly and sedately climbs.
I am looking for advice on obvious things to do before getting the cylinder head off etc. I have replaced the plugs, air filter, fluids etc and done some rudimentary RedEx fuel system cleaning

I had a 280 TE and that went very well,, that was the largest engine offered on the 123

Check the gearbox control cable is adjusted correctly, and that you are getting full throtle when the pedal is pressed. The contol cable should fit straight onto the ball with the free play taken up.
