In trying to diagnose the puddle light on the drivers side door of my ML, I noticed last night that the courtesy light doesn't come on when the drivers door is opened. All the others work fine so I am suspecting a switch or cable. I am planning to have to door card off this afternoon but also thought of checking the switch that operates the lights when the door is opened. Problem is I can't find a switch that seemed to operate the interior lights when the door is opened.

Can anybody explain how this works on an ML and where I might be able to find the switch that operates it?

So its actually in the door catch mechanism in the door itself rather than the body of the car? Mmm maybe a good douse of contact cleaner or WD may help...

I have looked for details of this before,,if they are micro switches,,they can be cleaned by pressing down the switch actuator and squirting in switch cleaner.

Is the switch built into the lock??
