I have a W210 320CDi...

This means it revs low and the TC doesn't bother locking up until I hit 70mph.

Now trundling up and down the A34 this is a pain as the TC keeps locking up and unlocking wearing the clutch (which was recently replaced as part of a gearbox rebuild)

What I really really want is the wretched thing to stay locked when a truck pulls out slowing me down to ~55mph... happens a LOT on this road.

So can this be remapped?

First the torque converter never locks up completely, this can be seen when say if cruising and the throttle is lightly pressed the revs will change but not the car speed. Torque converter lock up only happens during the changing in the intermediate gears

I know there is some slack in the TC when 'locked' but I can still see it flapping in and out

This is what is actually happening:

When I'm holding a steady 63 or so after a truck pulls out I'm doing 1800 rpm (or so).. edge down to 62 and suddenly I'm doing 2000 rpm and my foot hasn't moved on the pedal.

Something in that box of tricks is changing!.. maybe it isn't the TC clutch but it looks like it.

You can have the torque converter re adapted,,they have to do this on Glycol affected cars.

Are you sure the box isn't changing down a gear? I had this quite a lot on my 1996 C Class. If I just feathered the throttle when the cruise control was engaged it would change down ready for immediate response, which of course I didn't want. I just presumed it was a bug.
