Very much - it's the 'I can only assume that.............' bit that makes me just a tad suspicious.

That car has been on here before and a CAT D the last time it came up there was nothing to say that it had been repaired correctly

Has to be something of this nature.

You get nothing for nothing in this world.

If it seems too good to be true, it is.

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, the bills will be too high if anything goes wrong.

As you say, there's nothing to say it was repaired correctly. It may have been repaired by Dominic Little and VBH on Wrecks to Riches (what a crap program that is).

Wouldn't touch that one then

There is nothing to say the the chassis is not out of true or the front sub frame and components. When a car has been repaired and set up to Thatcham standards, then it is possible to get the CAT D removed

but surely if the chassis was bent then it would have received higher than a cat D write off?

It is a strange one as cat D means it was uneconomical for the insurers to repair yet the car has a high value?
From a quick googling session it could be possible that it was stolen/recovered but the owner got paid out before recovery and it attained a "D" for that.
Although a cat D does not need inspecting to be put back on the road it can have a VIC (vehicle identity check)
. A cat C has to have a VIC . this will remove the dvla marker set against the car but it will always be recorded as cat D on a hpi check. Many insurers will refuse to insure a cat D
The VIC is designed to confirm the identity of the car and does not assess the quality of the repair ! (seems a bit daft)
A cat D is worth 30+% less in value.
