I have just bought a very nice 1997 Mercedes C180 and would like to get it properly serviced on the assumption that it has not been serviced for some time.
Has anyone an idea of what the cost of such a service would be?

Hello and welcome to the Forum. The service will be according to the schedule, and many suppliers (Indy I presume for a car of this age?) use menu pricing.

Prudent to get the Indy to go over the car and recommend what they think is either necessary, or advisable and then agree the work to be done, and the price, in advance.

Don't as some people have done, pass it over to a garage with the brief that "It may not have been serviced for a while, just do what's necessary".

They may well raise issues such as changing the brake fluid and the coolant. It is good practice to change both periodically, especially if there is no record of when they were last done. New plugs can also be expensive, but should last 40-45,000 miles. If the engine starts willingly first time, you may well decide to postpone plugs, even if suggested.

It will be interesting to hear how you get on. Have you chosen the garage you will use? Independent Mercedes Specialists are the way to go - they are familiar with the cars and they trade on their reputation.

At 17.10 I am still waiting for a reply. So much for Mercedes dealers.

Why are you taking the car to a main dealer? They will fleece your wallet.

Simply find a local MB specialist and save a fortune. Ask this forum for a recommendation of a specialist in your locality.

Quiet right, at this age you shouldn't waste your time/money to go to dealer as they will charge you over the odds. I have asked BLM for his locality then someone can recommend a local specialist.

Wasn't sure whether to add to this thread or start another - same topic ?

Anyway - November 2003 ML270CDI currently just over 93000 miles and next service is due in 3500 miles.

It has a full MBSH and I'm kind of hoping to get some rust fixed under the mobilo life warranty so I'm leaning towards having at least one more service done by the main dealer and sorting the rust at the same time.

What kind of service will be due at 97000 miles ? and what is it likely to cost me ?

Thanks

I live in Oxfordshire, and following my experiences with MBS wouldnt dream of taking my car anywhere else, its worth the 60mins drive to them, and you will be back in 45 mins after their work !!

Oh and very reasonable costs too !!

Would you care to say where you took your car?
