A Mate of mine has the audi and was convinced he could do me on 1/4 mile drag, so we took cars on airstrip and well what can i say one up to Mercedes.

Now he wants to do a Circuit !!! Think il give that a miss his Audi is like its on rails and my AMG is going no where near a track.

Any way now i have a problem because when i reached 120+ in my car there was an awfull clicking / air noise thats only way i can describe it.

It does not appear to be mechanical as its not engine speed / Revs related as when i eased of the noise continued until car slowed about 100mph.

Tried it twice and same sound, now my problem is how do i get MB or Indie to diagnose problem if it only happens at 120mph+. Cannot imagine they would let me wizz them on a drive at 120 to show them problem !!

Did try it with roof down and no noise so it must be roof related somewhere.

Ive got a feeling it could be the slight gap between the windscreen and the plastic strip on the top nearside. I might try to tape over it and break the law and see if that cures it, if not i'm stumped.

Has any other SLK owners come across this problem at high speed ?

Thanks

The only time I took my SLK above 120 I have to say I certainly didn't notice any abnormal noises (apart from my hubby's wimpering noises )
A friend of mine has got one, and has had trouble with the rubber strips down the sides of the windscreen making a noise at speed......might be worth a look.

I think that is a good idea. If a seal gets out of shape at speed, it may not correct itself until you stop, or even open and close the door again.

(the thought of custard approaching the sound barrier is fascinating. If you were caught, would you get your just desserts?)

Think i have found this noise, it occured with a passenger in the car and the noise is coming from the top of the passenger window, when he pressed on the glass while the noise was there it got worse.

The noise is not there at low speeds so not noticeable but i think i need to adjust the window so it goes up a bit more, is there a procedure for this or is it a door panel off and manual adjust ( Ball Ache ).

Thanks for your help

Along the same lines, a friend of mine had a Saab for a while, he was very impressed with its performance, with exception of when he got up to speed with it, both the doors used to let a rush of air through the door seals, he maintains that he thinks the doors buckled under speed and let this happen, he sold it soon after, and brought an Audi A4, not as fast apparently but better quality build, Buy a Mercedes I told him, no one ever listens to me! prehaps I waffle too much.
