Hi what year or Vin:No is the 300d out of, what is the Vin No of the CE, as I have put a deisel engine into my 1992 sl 129 ,quite alot of work involved but over the moon with it using it as our every day car now as it is more reliable, instead of 15to20mpg now get 40mpg and will do 118 mph. where abouts are you I can talk you through it. Hope this helps

short answer is yes, it will fit if both engines are form w124 series cars. bear in mind that the rear gearbox mounting plate and propshaft will need to be the correct parts for the diesel. easily the best way to undertake this conversion is with a donor car - there are so many parts that are needed!! the propshaft MAY be a problem as the ce is a shorter chassis. other things to bear in mind are; ignition switch and vacuum tubing, diff ratio, wiring, plumbing - esp coolant, exhaust, and gearboxes are different if using an auto. good luck and it is easily possible and well worth doing if you have the time, materials and patience!

i have two diesels w124s at my disposal a 1995 multivavle om606 i believe its called just naturally aspirated guise the whole car all in good working order and that is a cracking engine and the engine i would most probably want in the ce.bt i have another w124 doner with a 603 engine if that wont fit? and i was wondering if at a later date a om 606 turbo diesel what would be involved? the 603 doner is 1991 car and the ce is 1992 ?

regards dave.

PS you can double 40miles to the gallon if your paying 50 a litre for very high quality biodiesel ;)

Do not forget Dave the the TDT was never offered in the UK as the steering column is in the way, and it did not come until the 210 cars

The E300 Diesel has two different engine mounts. AFAIK the rest of the W124s use the same mount both sides

Are we talking Manual or auto box on these cars, I need more information so I can work it out, no point in pulling it apart you need to have a plan ie. I left my 129sl1992 g/box in and used the torque converter, but used the deisel fly wheel by having it skimmed by a small engineering firm so the torque converter from the sl would fit, had to cut cross member back and reinforce so I could bolt engine up to g/box,made engine mountains out of cardboard for the engineering firm to copy in steel with the bolt holes drilled this was the start, if your serious about this project I can work it out for you. Hope this helps

almost childs play, certainly not too hard with a donor car or two.

from what ive seen and read here though, the injector pump is the main problem. shouldnt be too bad if its a non electronic type. the pump fitted to my later 210 turbo is electronically controlled, hence people go for the older pump and non turbo engine. i believe the steering box gets in the way of where the exhaust/turbo system need to be to fit a factory fitted turbo to a right hand drive car

Yes it will not be difficult like my sl, I'll put my hands up I made a mistake first by trying to put deisel engine and g/box in, but there was no way how I could fit electronic sl speedo to the g/box, and the ratios would not have worked out, also had to use sl radiator, the 250d rad would have been to high so made the plumbing up as I went along, you will not have these problems, glow plug relay needs to be wired into ignition, you will need the 300d ignition so you have the flow and return vaccum unit for switching engine of, strange I worked in poland for seven years in the early 80s nice people the polish, the germans would drive mercs into poland for serviceing repairs and body work as it was a 1/4 of the price because of low wages, any problems let us know and good luck.
