The are very cheap to run,,only 12 coil packs,24 sparking plugs and 15 mpg,,they all have ADS and that is OK if you can find anyone to fix it, very fast and fun to drive

thanks Malcolm-if i picked one up farely cheaply - do you think they would be worth more in the future - as i would only be doing about 500 miles a year and keep it garaged.

The 600 engine does have some inherent faults, very expensive to run, I do not think that I would gamble on one

in process of talking to Brian about it-

At 66,000 it suggests the car has had reasonable use (and might imply it has not spent too long in workshops!).

500 miles per year is probably less than they like - I get the impression that cars enjoy being driven (metaphorically, of course, as I know they have no emotions), and that a good "Italian tune up" is evidence in favour of the idea.

They can stagnate with under use - like the rest of us.

If it drives well, it might be fine (there must be good ones out there), failing which it will give Brian something to fiddle with and keep him out of mischief on the long dark nights.

We look forward to hearing more.

would like a bit more feedback if anybody knows more about this car - still in negotiation stage with Brian. As soon as he saw the words "head gasket" he came out in a cold sweat? and went to look in his piggy bank. I did point out to him that my birthday is coming up soon and although he has offered to replace (the handbag) he destroyed for the SL seat - i would rather have the car. It is 200 miles away and they have offerred to deliver it - so if it drives 200 miles on motorways surely there cannot be much wrong with it. The spheres and cats have been replaced -3 owners-last one had it for 3 years-all service history with it. Am I being naive? Brian said it could be expensive to service even if he does it himself. Diesn't like the thought of taking 24 plugs out. I think he is making a list at the moment of all the reasons why i shouldn't get it - can anyone honestly give me any reasons why i should get it, if it goes cheap- i.e £5,000- surely this would be a bargain?

You really want to ask someone who only has one arm lizzy.

Otherwise you will get the following advice:

on the one hand, this model had inherent and expensive faults - see above.

on the other hand, because of this, it's engine capacity and complexity, fuel consumption and general maintenance costs, this may be real bargain. As the market tends to avoid such issues, the enlightened and the brave can pick up a real snip - which this might easily be.

Ask Brian if he fancies a real snip.

Don't do it, the V12 is wonderful, but requires deep pockets to keep on the road. ADS on the 600SL is wonderful, but is ruinous when it goes wrong.

My heart wants a 600SL, but my head wins every time !
