Well, have you?

With my luck, I've had to take the car to Dartford MB several time for warranty repairs. (I'm not blaming the dealer in any way, as they provide a fair service imo)

The 'man' I refer to appears to be elderly. Yesterday I saw him for the third time on the public pavement just outside the dealer. I thought WTF is the guy doing is the pithing rain. As I turned into MB, I noted his large message board and for the first time tried to read it. It said something like, 'electrical fault' and many other faults, and asked drivers to sound their horn - a few do/did.
On the way out it was raining v heavy, he had gone, so had his board and chair.

Does anyone know what is going on?

TIA

He was protesting that MB had not found the fault on his car

MB offered 50% .......... the dealer offered the rest ........... so why's he still there ........ Oh, he wants extra's doing ....

He bought it private, and the car has no dealer servise history

There's more to his protest than meets the eye .. IMHO

See, similar note but a bit leftfield, I was surprised when a person told me that he had bought a 7-year-old car and got loads of bodywork done on the warranty - literally the whole side of the car. Yes it had full service history but he had bought it as a trader with the intention of selling it to make profit. I couldn't believe it.

If he's able to do that then this chap should surely have the same rights? If the car's been looked after properly then it's within his rights isn't it?

I realise the article says it hasn't had work done at that specific dealer but if it's had service work done at another MB dealer then it's fine isn't it?

cheers for the link!!

'A spokeswoman said: “We feel offering to pay 100 per cent of the cost of repair for an privately-bought unknown car that’s not had a service history with us for six years was reasonable.”

If it has not had service history as stated by the MB woman, then surely the gentleman is wrong.

My apologies to the gentleman or getting his age wrong - it was rining hard

I'd say to the bloke to get his side of the story to the press and then we can all decide who is right.

Btw, if th local delaer was prepaedto pay "50%" - is thi because they sold the vehicle when it was new and carried out some of the servicing?

Btw- I have to say, on the whole the dealership has been okwith me apart from the scratch on my previous MB and rear door chip onthe exisiting car.
There is a bloke at MB in the servicing dept, been there since 2004 at least, aout 6' 6" tall - he is quite helpful and fair!

Agreed, seems like an odd thing to do. Maybe this guy has some 'issues' of his own.

Mr Pavey says the time spent protesting means he misses out on meeting clients, which he says costs him around £1,000 in lost income each week.
I realise it's probably personal to him but after five weeks he surely would have paid for the respray by now, especially if MB were offering 50%.
It's not the first time I've seen people get stuck on their course of action, there was a woman on a different forum a while back who felt hard done by a dealer and as a result her car has been off the road for a couple of years. It's probably easier said than done but sometimes you've just got to let go and get on with life.

He's still there, I saw him last week, must stop and have a chat with him and find out what it's all really about.
