Hi

My first time on the forum........so apologies if this has been asked millions of times before! The drivers side front window of my 2004 CLK 270CDi develops a whistling noise around the top seal at motorway speeds.

Does anyone have any tips?

There are no obvious gaps anywhere and the rubber looks in good condition and it's a one piece seal from the A pillar to the C pillar..........is this a DIY job to change and if so does anyone have a link?

Cheers

Hello and welcome. Is the door sitting correctly.

It should sit 1mm in from the A pillar and front wing.
Is the height of the door correct at the front hinge end, checked by looking to see if the moulding lines line up. Take a look at the other side, and compare the two.
Is the gap at the opening end of the door parallel all the way down, or is the gap at the top , smaller than the bottom.

Is the noise from the leading edge or more the top
I use a piece of thin card and push it between the door and the frame all around the top. Doors can be adjusted, but not an easy thing to do if you have not done it before

malc,
have you got a setting up procedure for aligning the door and window ?
I noticed that the passenger side door window sticks out further than the drivers side, which looks nice and flush.
The passenger door has been tampered with in the past as I found one bolt missing and another loose on the top window guide mounts. Removing the door card, I fitted a new bolt on the top RH side and adjusted the LH bolt and locking nut so the window was flush at the bottom, I found the window was still out at the top.
The adjustment for tilt at the bottom of the door guide is up one end but could still do with more the bring the window in a little more.
I have a feeling the door itself needs to adjusted a bit to bring it in at the top.

Hi Malcolm

The door appears to be sitting perfectly....All the gaps are constant and there are no obvious allignment problems. There isn't any obvious play when I move a piece of card along the seal either. The noise is difficult to pinpoint exactly but I would say it is from the top of the window.

Thanks

David

The only adjustment possible at the top of the door is to bend it inwards a touch.

To find the exact point,,have a duster in the car, and when the wind noise is there use the duster and move it around the front top edge, and any change in sound will tell you the exact point

I have some slight wind noise coming from the top of the seal. It looks like the rubber strip that seperates the door window and the rear quarter window is possibly worn. The Drivers side one looks like it has more of a step in it towards the top.
