Have been cleaning and generally and doing a few odds and ends on the SL today before putting the lid back on and noticed that the heating element in the rear screen is blown in two places . I've never used the heated screen in the time I've had the car and just tested it today and its defineatly not working (yes the fly lead was connected) .

So need some advice from any of you bodyshop boffins out there or anybody thats had experience of replacing this glass.

1, Is it worth bothering with (I do like to have things working as they should)
2, Is it an expensive replacement (cant seem to find any info on it)
3, Is it better to replace the glass off the car or on it
4, I'm having a little bit off corrosion on the roof rectified and having the roof
repainted completely as its only a small area and also the weather seals
replaced
5, Is it easier and more convenient to repaint the roof minus the glass or with
the new glass installed.

The heated rear window on these cars is very poor owing to the low current drawn,is it worth bothering with.

I can check to see how the roof comes apart

Replacement rear glass for the hardtop is only available from MB and costs a wapping £750 + VAT.

I broke mine so paid the excess and claimed off the insurance. Its bonded in so not a DIY replacement.

Autoglass did mine, left the hardtop with them for a couple of days, less risk of scratching the car if they do it off the car.

What colour roof are you after as a friend of mine has a silver one for sale. Reason for sale is that he bought a panaramic roof.

Not if you only pay £50 excess on your insurance (or even nothing if you know the right people)

Sorry for the late response Malcom but had a bit of hectic few days ,Thanks for the offer but I have just about enough info to take the whole car apart if I have to (I hope I dont though)
Glass is going to be an insurance jobbie at my local friendly Windscreen place as all glass is covered on my policy .
