Okay, following on from this thread, I have undertaken the following works and am now running out of options:

1) Have cleaned airmass sensor with brake cleaner
2) Have replaced both boost pressure control valves
3) Have replaced boost pressure control sensor
4) have checked pipes
5) Have checked wastegate regulator which was sticking but was freed with cleaner

Please can anyone tell me what other things to look for...The code is P1470 which is boost pressure related. The turbo works (when the car is not in limp mode!) but sluggish at low revs. It takes 2-3 seconds for the car to pick up and accelerate... but when the turbo kicks in, it is fine....

After approx. 5 mins of driving, limp mode kicks in. It really feels like an air intake problem...

Please help....what is the next step ?

i wish i had your intuition, that maf sensor must still be suspect and is a known common problem. i suggest you seek out the services of someone with the facility to do more than read fault codes...

Hi, you reall need to do what alexander says, it looks like you have rolled your sleves up and checked a few things, but you need to look at some live data, Is it reading boost pressure wrongly/bogis signal, or air mass reading, its got to be next step mate to get it on star

Thanks all. I have booked a day off on Friday and have it booked into a local Mercedes specialist who has Autologic (which is just as good as star apparently?).

The indie claims to be able to locate the problem within 1 hour of diagnostics and is charging £35.

This is cheaper than a new MAF so hopefully, the diags will show MAF is faulty, I can then go and get one off the shelf and have the problem fixed by the end of the day !!!

@Television, the car is a diesel mate, is this still the case ? ;)

Diesel MAFs will sometimes clean up owing to the oily nature of diesel. A bosch service center is the cheapest place to buy a sensor

Okay, I spent the best part of last night convincing myself that the MAF could be the problem. All symptoms seemed to be the same as those associated by an out of spec MAF.

This morning, I went down to Mercedes and waited until they opened at 8am. I took my tools with me and fitted it in their car park !

I started the car and started driving and immediately, I felt that the low end power had improved and the turbo was kicking in at the correct rev range...thinking I had cracked it, I hit the motorway.

After 2 mins in 6th gear, the car went into limp mode. I am now approx. £300 down with no light at the end of the tunnel.

The car is on diags on Friday so hopefully that will throw something up that has not already been tried.

The only consolation is that when the problem is identified, almost all problematic parts will have been replaced and should drive like a new car !

I suppose the only things left to try are collapsing pipes/wastegate/turbo related or a blocked cat.

Hi, like i said the other day, you need to get it onto the star machine and get some data off it, ie live data of air flow and boost pressure, if its not reading boost pressure correctly then it goes into a safe mode, i had one in last week from martin off this forum, chugger220 i think his forum name was, checked all the usual stuff and that tuned out to be wiring to the boost pressure sensor corroded and reading full boost on tickover.

Okay, been to the Merc Specialist Indie and hey presto, it is fixed !

He put the car on diags and located the vacumn was leaking....checked all pipes in great detail and located the pipe into the EGR valve as being split.

Replaced the pipe and wow, the car now pulls like a train. I think this powr gain was also assisted by the new MAS and Boost Pressure Valves that I fitted !

Although this episode has cost me over £300, the car has never had this much torque....now I wanna remap !!! Any advice ! hahaha
