Hi,

I have noticed that when I have the back loaded the suspension does not level it self .
where do I start looking ? I did notice that the rear shocks (I know they aren't really shocks) have a very light coating of oil and when I pruchased it the resevoir was a little low but topped it up and there has been no fluid loss.

I have read that it could be the accumulators - is there anyway of checking there performance ? and if they need replacing, is there any special tools etc needed.

TIA
Mark

The lever is moving, but no movement on the suspension.

I have jacked the car up and supported it on axle stands under the rear springs to make sure the hydro's are at their normal height - hope that's right

If the lever is moving but no movement - how do I know if it's the valve or the hydro's ??

Hi Mark

No special tools are required for replacing hydraulic shocks or spheres. Just to bear in mind:
(1) Bolts and nuts could be very tight - use flare nut wrench;
(2) Prepare for oil spillage - protect your garage floor and yourself;
(3) Rust could be a problem.
(4) Take the opportunity to change hydraulic fluid filter if you change hydraulic fluid.

Regards

I have adjusted the lever to make it sit lower but no movement, after putting it back on the ground. There is some bounce in the suspension so I assume that the accumulators are okay.
There was a light coating of oil ( Along with stuck on dirt) on the hydros a few weeks ago before I cleaned them and they are still dry now.

What I am trying to acheive is to drop the suspension to avangarde height with mb spec springs

So may be thinking that it's the height valve that has gone bad, thoughts from the more experienced ?

Just had a call from dealer and the height valve is £258 + vat !

The bleeding nipples are on the rear adjuster, you can change the lever to bleed

I can give you a paper on how to bleed it, and 1 on how to check the valve

Update: I took it for a drive this afternoon and the back has come down and it looks level with the front now :smile: but will know on Monday if it going to level off with the caravan on

I did bleed off the valve a bit and the fluid was a bit 'airy'. If it's no better, then I'm going to do a fluid change after giving it a bit of a clean by adding a bit of diesel to the system and drive it for a couple of weeks.

hold off on that diesel idea

it might well wreck the pressure pump and truly fritz your seals.
You can't even safely use the fluid from a w124. which is ZHM.
Check with the MB dealers, or Opie Oils. You need a specific hydraulic oil for the system. give me day or so to find mine in the garage and I'll post the part number thingy for you. Or search here for it.

I am only talk of no more than 1/2 a cup added to the oil already in there. I am not going to drain it and then fill it with diesel.
I already have the correct oil for the system in my garage
